Default MCD1000 vs OPPO BDP-83 for a transport

What difference, if any, might one expect by using the OPPO as a transport to the MDA1000 vs the MCD1000?

Has anyone compared the performance of the OPPO as a transport vs the MCD1000?

I have compared my Denon 2930 ($US600) to the MDA vs MCD1000 at a Mc Platinum dealer with several sales persons present. No one could tell which transport was being used...

I think the Oppo would be good.

So does it make sense to spend top dollar on a dac and use PS3 or cheap blu-ray player for transport?

That Oppo's DAC's are pretty nice. Give it a listen. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
You can get the SE version of the Oppo for something like $900.

Remember you want a good transport that can read and provide the best error correction possible so the data send to the digital outputs is accurate for your DAC to do its work.

Whether you can tell the difference between different transports is also dependent on how much if any error correction is required on a given disc.

I would doubt if you were listening critically that the Oppo would be as good as the MCD1000 but just walking into the room you might not be able to tell which was playing. As far as using a PS3, naw, just use a Bose Wave Radio.

This question isn't about money, it's about the transference of digital data. If there is no discernible difference then I may consider the change for some financial recoup and more flexibility.

I'm sure their DAC is nice but you'd have to pry the MDA1000 from my cold dead hands first.

In connection with the MDA I'm considering the OPPO only as a transport for redbook.

DACs that have superior jitter reduction should be more immune to lower quality transports because the jitter reduction is typically achieved by reclocking the data stream (0s and 1s) incoming from the transport. I am not sure what the jitter elimination characteristics are on the MDA1000 but if it is solid than using an Oppo as a transport should be fine. Can you audition the Oppo vs. a MCD1000 to test it out?

I have several cds that my MCD500 will not play but they play fine on my pc CD-ROM drive. Not the best error correction in my opinion.

And so I'm wondering with the technology of today, if the OPPO would be more than adequate to get all the information available as well as the MCD?

Is it possible that these HD readers like the OPPO are perhaps so over qualified to read regular CD's that virtually any high quality transport these days would easily do the job?

Dan did a nice review of the Oppo 83SE vs. the MCD500. For $899, the Oppo was impressive and gave the MCD500 a run. It's on AA -- do a search.
