I'm looking to buy a new SUV; seriously considering a 2011 Range Rover Sport Supercharged.

Never had a "Sport" but I have owned 6 Range Rovers, starting with the first year they were imported into the USA - I think 1987, and the last one was an '05.

Loved every one of them - except they were constantly plagued with small problems that required trips to the dealer for repair. I never had a problem that shut the RR's down, just small stuff, all sorts of lights lighting up, accessories quitting working, etc. On one, (a 2002 4.0 HSE) the fuel gauge stopped working and it took two months, sitting in a dealer's service department for Range Rover to figure out the problem and repair it. (They had to replace the wiring harness behind the dash). They did provide a "loaner" during the two months, but it was a hassle.

The Range Rovers rode well, handled well in all types or terrain, looked GREAT, carried everything I ever needed to carry, but, finally, the little problems, coupled with the fact that the nearest dealer was in Atlanta - about 180 miles away, caused me to re-think and in '07 I bought my first "other brand" SUV.

And, I absolutely love it . . . a Lexus GX470, the mid-sized Lexus SUV. Now driving a 2009 GX470, my second one, and between the two, the only thing I have had to have repaired/replaced was a pair of windshield wipers. I have found the Lexus to be totally reliable, very comfortable to drive, and because of the V8 engine, it will pull my 5,600# boat and trailer with the greatest of ease (Much better than my Range Rovers).

I think the Lexus looks good (maybe not quite as good as a Range Rover), and I can have it serviced locally. And, I really enjoy driving it. I also have a Mercedes S500 sedan, and find myself most often driving the Lexus SUV, because I enjoy it a whole lot.

I know that you have a local Range Rover dealer in Miami and there is probably one near you on the Cape as well, so trips to the dealer won't be a problem for you; but Ivan, I just had to put my two cents in.

I never hear or see any of you guys talk about Lexus cars or SUV's, but I am very seriously impressed with the two I've owned. I now think that when it is time to trade the Mercedes, I'll probably pick up a LS460 sedan.

By the way, my wife drives a Cadillac SRX SUV and I don't think that is the way to go. . . . .

Julian, I appreciate all of your input. Those kind of issues can really tarnish the enjoyment of a new car.

I too have owned a Lexus sedan in the past with zero issues.

I can tell you there is very little inventory in the USA which translates to very little incentive on the dealer to move these.

2011 Porsche Cayenne Turbos are non-existent.

Depends on where you drive the Porsche, I didn't care for it in the winter. Too much torque, low tires and less control than comparable heavy SUV's. I've had a few Range Rovers with no issues that I can remember. I really like the G55 AMG Mercedes that I have now. It's not for you if you're looking for a Range Rover. The Range is a smooth ride, quite enjoyable. The G55 is industrial strength and a bit tiring to drive if you're in traffic.

Porsche is my car of choice though!

I thought you just bought a Mercedees AMX a couple of weeks ago. You must of made some good investments to be thinking about a Range Rover today.

I have a 2006 Range Rover sport. I've never had a problem with it. My local RR dealership service writer told me they have had very few problems with the sport. I like the car. Good power but the rear cargo space falls a little short for my comfort. If I was to buy RR again it would have to be the HSE so I would have adequate room for me.

I use to own a 2005 escalade. My wife, daughter, and myself all miss it. No one makes an interior as comfortable and plush as cadillac, definitely not Range Rover.

Ivan, have you looked at X5M? My Cayenne GTS has seen much less driving time since the X5M joined it in the garage.. The X5M is perfect all around, looks, power, handling, even comfort. Unless of course you are planning to actually drive off road....

I wanted a Cayenne Turbo, but Champion Porsche told me very few are in the Country, they are all being exported. The two they had both had a few thousand miles each. I won't buy a dealer demo though.
