PPP - MultiWave and THD

Tomorrow I am going to try swapping a couple of power cords around to see if that has any impact on the THD. I will try some different combinations on one of the amps to see if anything changes.

Output THD stays at .4 to .5%-MW does not cause any effect on my system.

I am hoping that someone from PS Audio reads this thread. Something is not right. From what I have discovered with my three PPP's and Ivan's (the six he could reach), and klipschfan's PPP, MultiWave should not be driving your THD output up. That's the part I don't understand.

Jim, my initial point about MultiWave, and your original comment about feeling like you have lost some energy, was to suggest that you switch to MultiWave for a day or two, and see if perhaps the slightly better midrange dynamics I am hearing will give you back the missing link. I'm suggesting that for now, just ignor the increased THD numbers, and spend some time in MultiMode.

Hopefully, we can get to the bottom of the increased THD when someone from PS Audio chimes in. This is bugging me.

I will switch MW back on tomorrow after I go thru a short listening session with the PPP's out of the loop. I want to see if I am remembering something wrong. As I noted, although I hear noticeable benefits with the the PPP's in the loop, it seems to come at the expense of "slowing" the amps down. Maybe I am hearing what it should have sounded like and it is just different.

I can assure you a proper working PPP does not slow down the amps. My amps are explosive on the PPP's!

Just to update everyone on the Multi Wave and THD issue on my PPP's.

Here is the response I finally received from Scott McGown of PS Audio.

Hi Jim,

That's a very good question. What we're really doing with the MultiWave
function is extending the peak charging time on the sine wave. This (on the
3rd Harmonic) at about 180Hz makes for a great sonic quality. However,
technically, it is harmonic distortion as far as the THD Analyzer is
concerned because anything other than a perfect sine wave is seen that way
by the analyzer.

Make sense? In short you've got a perfectly functioning unit. Happy

So bottom line, if THD does increase when MW is turned on, why am I the only one here who sees it.

I just came across this thread. From my experience with my system and PPP, I did try back and forth with and without multiwave, the fact that I can hear a difference is not even a question. It is not a night and day difference but the problem is I DON"T LIKE multiwave.... It etches and bleaches the sound in my system.... So I don't use it at all. YMMV. The Lamm's don't react to it very well. But no, I didn't notice any difference in "PRAT".

Now that I am using a turntable with an AC motor plugged into it, multiwave is not even recommended from what I understand for AC motors.

A lot of high end TT's these days have power supplies for DC motors-seems that a DC motor has more pluses than minuses in terms of sound quality.
