One down side about Meridian is that you can't play with cables anymore unless there is audiophile grade CAT5 cables

Hey Bro, DONT ever said that! You will have that theatre and enjoy it for many many good years!

Plasma Ion speakers are cheapo as compared to 7 DSP8k's. Come on, its because you are a Meridian fan ... so there's no need to make that switch. I happen to chance upon it and have to "pawn" off all my McIntosh before I could get that single pair of speakers! We are talking about different leagues man .... you are 1st division, I am like 3rd!

Anyway, I look forward to the day to be able to listen to your setup. November, we have a date? I am trying to see if selling off the MCD500 could get me a family ticket to Florida to visit Ivan.

If there's big enough a market, some day an audiophile grade Cat 5 will appear. Maybe Transparent, Crystal Cable or the like is already in the process of cooking up one?

Some would call that an upside!

Actually I have been toying with some nice Oyaide 75ohm digital cables but honestly I can't hear much of a difference.

I thought Meridian recommends CAT5 over Spdif digital connection because CAT5 has the ability to pass through balanced signal. or am I way off?

No you're sort of correct. The new versions have cat 5 and spdif. Cat 5 is fully balanced but Bob Stuart says they basically sound the same but Cat 5 is more convenient as it carries the Meridian Comms connector as well.

PM me when your plans are firm and DO call me when you arrived.

Hopefully, by then, you have the time to audition my NEW setup.

Cheers!
