Default Esoteric tidbits

Earlier today I was adjusting rack shelves and gear in preparation for the arrival of a second Esoteric K-03 and a second Olive 04HD music server. For some reason I decided to check the upsample setting and the digital filter setting while I was listening to the MS750 through the K-03 coaxial digital input. I was surprised to discover the upsample setting and digital filter setting were both different from the setting I had selected for the SACD/CD input. This caused me to get out the K-03 owner's manual once again and do some reading. What I discovered is each input, SACD/CD, coaxial, optical, and USB have independent upsampling and digital filter settings. That is a nice to have that additional control capability over each input.

When I first setup the K-03 I spent hours listening to the same solo piano track on CD while switching between no upsampling and the various other upsmaple choices, as well as switching between the digital filters and no digital filter settings. At that time and until today I thought those settings were universal across all inputs. Today I discovered each input is setup independently.

Just thought I'd pass that information along to the Esoteric K-01 and K-03 owners who may have overlooked these useful features listed in the manual.

Thanks Dan, yes I stumbled on that too that each input can have it's own settings. Very nice and a HUGE diff.

Dan, thanks for the tip. One of these days I will have to use the K-03 to play something other than a SACD/CD.

Angel.......Believe it or not, I actually read the Esoteric manual, but I missed the part about independently adjusted inputs in my zest to get the K-03 up and running. It is a nice feature.

Jim.......My only disappointment with the Esoteric K-03 is the inability to access the Upsample and Digital Filter settings from the remote control. It would be so much easier to audition and compare the different settings from the sweet spot without having to go to the player to make the selections. I mentioned that in my K-03 review and still feel it should not have been left out of the remote functions.
