LS 50s are great speakers.
I think for the money, they are best I've ever owned. Performance/price = value. they are great.. I think you can get a used pair for just around a grand on AG or EBAY |

Agree about the break-in period. 200 hours sounds about right. Make sure you add a sub, also using heavy speaker stands helps. I had them sitting on my desk, clearly not ideal but still sounded good. They really started to sing once I positioned them correctly.

I've got the LS50 in my office system, driven by an EAR 868 preamp and a Decware Zen Mystery Amp. Source is a Sony HAP-Z1ES.
Playing the live acoustic version of "Hotel California" from The Eagles' "Hell Freezes Over" -- one of my favorite bass test tracks -- I get all the whomp factor I could ask for, with no sub. Great amp.

It'll be interesting to see how low watts compares to higher watt amplification. I mostly listen at lower volumes as my room is smallish and I share three walls with my neighbours. |

I suspect that the amp will probably be a bit low. KEF have always liked power and the LS50s are no exception. However, KEF have always liked good power, not how much power. For example, my old 104aB were rated at 100 watts if I am remembering correctly. I had driven them with 200 WPC amps with no issues at all. I also had hooked them up with a friends huge Sony receiver and they sounded terrible while a 25 WPC McIntosh tube amp sounded fantastic.
The LS50s are rated at 100 Watts. I drive them with a 125 WPC amplifier and they love it. The are a tad low sensitivity, 85 dB, so they love power. Quality not quantity.... |

I absolutely love my LS50's. For a while I had them in my main set up, giving my B&W 802D2s some stiff competition at 1/10 of the price.
Amazing how transparent, big and right they sound. I picked mine up mine up via massdrop, so saved some money. Currently, they're in my headphone system driven by an Aragon 8008 (200 w/ch) and a Woo Audio W2.

I am amazed at the sound you can get from these little marvels, I am equally amazed out how much wattage they need to bring out the best in them. KEF LS50 that is.

They surprise me every day. I am driving them with a Goldmund Job 225 amplifier which is 125 WPC and they just love it!

I find brazil-nut's comparisons intriguing. I've been happily living with my KEF LS50s for 2-1/2 years and will be comparing them to a pair of B&W N805 next week.
I've always wanted a pair of 805s but I think it'll be tough to supplant the KEFs. |

The Goldenear Aon 3 replaced the B&W 805S I had before.
For me, the 805S sounded too clean and too 'perfect'. From an audiophile point of view that are good things. The LS50 does everything just right for me. With the LS50's I actually wanted to keep listening and focus on the music. The 805S got tiring after a while... |
