KT-88's last around 4000 hours. Sometime balanced sounds better than rca, sometimes not. Try both and let your ears decide. When you use rca interconnects with a 275 you go through another stage of amplification so many prefer balanced. I run my 275 with balanced interconnects.

Tom, thanks for the reply, especially the information about balanced interconnects. I'll have to try them when my MC275 arrives!

Well, I have over 2 months with my MC275 now and have really enjoyed it.

I ran extensive A/B testing between this unit and my MC402, both paired with the C2300 preamp. I prefer the MC275 as it presents more details and a more realistic bass to my ears.

I am now considering selling my MC402 and buying a 2nd MC275!

Default McIntosh MC275 or MC302?

I am getting ready to replace my MC152, and am choosing between these 2 amps. Preamp is a McIntosh C220. Speakers are B&W 803 Diamond.
My listening room is small, about 11 x 15.
I will say that I am currently listening to a little YAQUIN 35w x 2 tube amp and as always, whenever I place this little amp in a system, it impresses the hell out of me, even driving the 803's. lastly I will say that I generally do not listen at really high levels.
Would love to hear your thoughts....

I had a Chinese made Cayin amp using KT-88s. I was so happy with them I decided to upgrade to a different brand. I got a MC275 and paired it later to a C220 preamp. The pairing is very good and drives my floorstanders with ease. So the jump from your Yaquin to McIntosh will, to say the least, not be disappointing.

I am not sure one MC 275 has enough juice to drive BW 803D to best of its potential especially resolution at low volumes.

I have Lipinski 7 monitors and result made me switch to use Musical Fidelity Nu Vista 300 amp.
But i like Tube sound so i am planning to use Mcintosh 275V and MC 275GG as Mono to drive my soon to be delivered BW 803 D3
I have C 2200 preamp and room size is 11x12 .

hi I'm using mc275 with B&w 803d3 in a compact room..... am pleased with the result but haven’t been in a position to compare....bought the speakers first then later the MC275....with out hearing either.... . power isn't a problem...... especially in this room... treatment in the floors and walls with carpets etc...... I was once a hifi retailer of B&W so I thought I knew what I was getting.... they exceeded my expectations I had no experience with McIntosh other than what I read..... it has also exceeded what I thought would happen..... so all good here.

Thank you all for your input - I'm leaning towards the MC275 and both of your input really helped me here. I think it just comes down to my ancient ears liking the sound of tubes. TC
