Fuji X-Pro2

Noticed today that the Fuji X-Pro2 won Popular Photography's Camera of the Year Award for 2016.

I actually brought one of these cameras home last Thursday for a trial spin, and I am very impressed by it.

I have an X-T1 (along with a couple of other Fuji cameras) and I've been tempted to get an X-T2 but think I may keep the X-T1 and spring for the X-Pro2.

I know all the pro's and con's of the two cameras, but I am infatuated by the feel of the X-Pro. I really don't need a lot of guidance. I'm a big boy and can decide this all on my own . . . . and I know Stephen, having had an X-Pro1, has pretty well settled on the X-T2.

But . . . . I do like this camera and may keep it.

Go for it! It's a terrific camera. The image quality is exceptional. The main reason I settled on the X-T series is that I use rather longish to long zooms...

Got mine on Friday. Thus far, it justifies all of the press. Just stunning (plus it looks and feels like a real camera, not a flat screen).

I really liked the X-Pro 2 a lot, the biggest I had with it was the eye relief. I found it tiring to look through over time.

BTW, Julian I sold my X-Pro1 to a friend who'd been pining for it since I bought it four years ago.

But, I find I miss it and I am going to look for another nice, clean used X-Pro1. That camera had a very special image quality to it I just loved.

To me the whole point of a fuji x camera is the ability to see your picture in the digital view finder and make adjustments before you press the shutter button. The XT-1 is a terrific camera, if you want better go for the XT-2

One "side" benefit of the X-Pro2 that i'd not expected is . . . the 18-135 fuji lens, that I've owned for a long time and seldom used, actually looks good and balances well on the X-Pro.

Not Fuji's best lens, to be sure, but perfectly adequate for most situations .. and better than similar lenses from the competition.

I never used it much on the X-T1 (or X-T10 or X-E1&2) because it was, and is a little too large and does not balance well enough on those bodies for "all in one" use. But, with the X-Pro2, I may just leave it on "all the time" . . . and it is sharp!

The X-Pro, being a little larger, just fits the lens perfectly.

I've taken a couple of hundred photos with the combination over the past few days and I am well pleased.

Our house backs up to a Federal Wildlife Refuge, which protects us from urban sprawl; but sometimes makes us remember Alfred Hitchcock's movie THE BIRDS.

I took this picture on the refuge yesterday (Christmas Eve) with the Fuji X-Pro2 & 55-200mm Fuji lens . . . A few of the Sand Hill Cranes that visit us during the winter.

Hope they don't visit our bird feeder all at once.

Julian, I've heard really good things about the 18-135. Its a nice sharp lens, but it's only "drawback" for some folks is its not the fastest lens on the planet. But all this is moot in shooting in daylight because you're usually shooting at f/5.6 or higher anyway. Your point about having larger bodies to balance larger lenses is well-taken; the power grip on the X-T2 makes it easier to balance lenses like the the 50-140 and 100-400.

Pretty decent in most circumstances.
