Default KT150 tubes

I am looking at new tubes for my PrimaLuna HP integrated amp and am considering KT150's. If you have experience with this tube, what are your thoughts?

Default Kt150

I have them in my Jolida JD801BRC and I think they are amazing. I replaced a set of JJ KT-88s and the stock 6550s with the KT150s. I think they sound really good. To me the bottom end seems to be a lot tighter and feels like it has more drive behind it. Not saying they give more power, that is a completely different debate, they just seem to add that extra little punch that was missing. The midrange and highs are very smooth. I cannot complain.

I, too, have a PrimaLuna HP with El34 tubes and I'm considering either KT120s or KT150s. The EL34s have quite a lush midrange--would I sacrifice that for more "punch" with those other tubes? I mainly listen to classical music if that matters.

Toccata -- You know more about that integrated than I do, but the extra 26 watts from the KT150 compatible unit probably wouldn't upset the midrange as like if one was to change the front two gain tubes which offer the most change followed by the driver tubes.

I see you've been a member of AA for awhile, but there are KT150's for sale in the marketplace for subscribers ($25 membership). Probably recoup that in 1 tube buy.

These are the same tubes Kevin gets from New Sensor (Tung Sol KT150's). Factory tested/labeled and with 6 month warranty from date of purchase.

Anyway, just saying.

Best Sir,

Bob

You certainly do push for people to subscribe. I didn't post in order to get a sales pitch: I wanted opinions on the tonal differences between those tubes.

Let's take your latter first -- I did mention that going to the larger power tubes would probably not be the best way to keep your luscious midrange -- you'd in all likelihood gain more bottom end and power with those tubes; but, you already have the sweetest midrange power tubes in your amps. The stock EL34's.

If you want just a tad bit more but keep the midrange KT77's would be the ticket IMO and not the Tung Sols.

Additionally, one step further, PrimaLuna suggests changing out the front two gain tubes (12AU7's). YMMV.

That's all. No harm, no foul (intended).

Now onto the pre comment. You make it sound like I'm a beneficiary of a subscriber enrollment drive -- the more I muster from member to subscribership, the fatter my wallet. Far from it (I get zero BTW; like any other encourager).

I only mentioned it for awareness and also to support the site in which you apparently have been happy to be apart of. Whether you elect to become a subscriber after 6 years is totally up to you, but you need not be snobbish and rude about my attempt to casually bring it to your attention.

You'd be surprised how much Ivan spends (and Richard's time) on this site for the software, malware, phishing & other types of security related software to keep the site secure for all of us. Safe, reliable and a joy to spend time on and not having to be worried of clicking a link and the low life's & deviants now have you in their grip; making your personal & financial day or days pure hell. You'd be surprised to know how many daily hacks the expensive security & their due diligence thwarts 24x7.

So, I'll be man enough and say I apologize; but, this site doesn't run 24x7 on autopilot.

Best Sir,

Bib

I have the Dialogue Premium which is the baby brother of the HP. I use the KT 120s with my gain tubes rolled to Brimar CV 4003. Sounds spectacular. And yes, if you feel like you get any benefit from this forum should become a subscriber. Just sayin’.
