A small number of loyal customers such as myself were able to get a GT3RS at sticker. I never owned a 918 Spyder.
Nice, how did it perform? It's amazing that they can sell out of these cars before they are even announced...

It is an amazing car but I would not track it myself, way too much $$$ for me to track. As a fun car, I rather have a 6 speed. If I could get a 911R, that would be perfect all around. if I was to get a car for constant track use, it would be a Miata with some mods or a pre owned Cayman S/R/GT4 at best.

Apparently 20 units due in Australia, 1 of which is going to a friend. Cannot wait to be a passenger (and hopefully a drive too!)

oops. as much as I like the new 911R, the sound of that old skool air cooled 911R is just sooo much more intoxicating.

:P

Unless you bought a 918 in the US you won't get a allocation. I too got an RS at MSRP but can't get a whiff of this one. I personally would rather have a GT3 in or RS but then I like the PDK. I drove manuals for years and had an '11 RS, but I think the PDK is superior.

I don't think the PDK's performance was ever in doubt.

But using a good stick shift always feels more involving. Like you are one with the car.

You have to love marketing, they make you pay a premium for a MT while they remove the expensive PDK system.

They make limited run so the car becomes even more desirable and expensive just like the GT4 or GT3RS. I don't know what they gain from doing that versus opening the order book and filling the demand.

Slim chance of getting the 911R at this point judging by the apologetic voice of my dealer giving me the long winded explanation of the 918 VIP program and my 2 year old deposit on the 911R, so I hedged against the 911R "unicorn" in the form of a deposit for the next gen GT3 with a 6 speed manual. If I still happen to get a 911R (dealer said not to completely give up ) it will be a rather large miracle! Supposedly 7 911Rs will still wind up in non 918 owners hands in the US.

Between this and the m4 gts, you're quickly becoming my hero.

Another bonus for those who bought the 918 spyder and got into the VIP program and had a chance to buy the 911R. The 911R is now trading at $1.3M. That's a car with an msrp starting at $180k. Flipping the 911R will pay for the 918 Spyder... Nuts! Sadly, although I had a deposit on the rumored 911R for almost 2 years now, I won't be getting one.
