I'm new to the Roon and Tidal thing. Sound very intriguing. Can I play Tidal via Roon to the OPPO 203?

That's exciting How does Tidal sound via the 203 compared to playing CD direct? I assume it also does software MQA unfolding?

So I have Roon and UHD, Blu-ray, 3D, DVD, DVD-Audio, SACD and CD all in the same box.
Cool, nice setup. That's great that the Oppo picks up the Wifi from your Xfinity wireless router.

Now you've got a nice setup what with Gumby, Tidal, Roon, SACD, and CD all in your system now. Plus Blu-Ray, etc for home theatre! Once you get those DVD demo tracks I sent you, you can configure Roon to play them via DoP if you're not using the Schiit Loki.

But, you should definitely try that little Trickster God of DSD.....he's quite impressive. Loki is only USB powered, so he doesn't put out much gain, and you'll have to turn the volume up a bit more, but he sounds really good. I think I read somewhere that Loki is actually a multibit DAC.

BTW, I read the white paper on the Focal Utopias....very impressive and considerable engineering effort.

I am using the 203 with Tidal through Roon. Roon allows for wifi streaming to roon ready devices, otherwise I have not connected the Oppo 203 to my computer in any other way just yet. Well, I did plug an HDMI cable into my monitor and now able to watch Bluray on my monitor screen if I want. For whatever reason, my built in Bluray drive in my PC does not want to work with included software so the Oppo comes to the rescue. Tidal sounds excellent through Roon . I really have to struggle to hear any appreciable difference between CD and Roon/Tidal.

So, you're going from the 203 via RCA 75 ohm digital coax into the SPDIF port of Gumby?

The Blu-Ray from my older Oppo BD-83SE is impressive, but I know that Oppo has really improved this with their latest Blu-Ray implementation. Must look killer on a Retina display.

Correct Stephen. Digital coaxial to S/PDIF of Gumby. Gives me the Roon Ready endpoint and the Lossless stream/SuperNova light.

I am using my 21" PC Monitor. It's a Viewsonic so not quite as good as the MacBook Retina but not bad!

Oppo makes an excellent transport for CD playback feeding Gumby. Dynamic, transparent but smooth and musical. Oppo uses good quality CD loader/transport

"High Precision Disc Loader
A high-precision, well-balanced laser optical disc loader ensures smooth and reliable playback of all types of disc media. An optimized laser mechanism provides super fast disc loading and strong error detection & correction."

Yep, Oppo is famous for it's transports. IIRC, a number of other high-end audio companies OEM and utilize Oppo transports for their high-end transports and disk players. Transports and players that often cost 5-10X as much as the Oppo.

Remember that whole scandal from 2010 when Lexicon took a $500 Oppo BD-83 or something similar, fit it inside their own "shell" and sold it for $3500?
