Default Two new CD/DACs from Aesthetix and Simaudio...

This is from AVGuide.com's coverage at CEDIA. Both look like interesting products: CEDIA Scene: New DAC/CD Transports from Aesthetix & Simaudio | AVguide

Cyril.......Yes, indeed. The new Moon 650D Digital-to-Analog Converter / CD Transport using a fully balanced differential dual-mono design, and separate digital & analog power supplies using 2 independant toroidal transformers caught my attention a few weeks ago. It incorporates the new ESS Saber32 Ultra DAC and digital filter, plus 4 digital inputs. It looks spectaular in Silver and in black. $8K brings it home. When you get to the price range of the new McIntosh MCD1100, a lot of other players come into focus, including the Moon 650D. Even though this player doesn't do SACD, I still consider it a serious contender at that price point. I love the look of it.

Cyril.......I stand corrected. I see the Moon 650D lists at $7999.00, and the Moon 750 lists at $11,999.00. Thank you for the correction. I will update my post. This makes the 650D an even more incredible value. When you compare the 650D and the 750D, there is not a huge difference that I can see, with the exception of more voltage regulation stages. That extra $4K must be somewhere.

Currently I have the SuperNova cdp and like it very much. It's redbook CD only but does have digital inputs.

I am actually interested in seeing how the Aestheitc Romulus will be received by the reviewers? Aesthetix has traditionally started out with preamps and in the last two years entered the power amp arena with their Atlas amp. I believe this is their first digital product. They have licensed the asynchronous USB technology from Wavelength (like Ayre did with their QB-9 and DX-5 DAC and universal player). The USB input is able to support up to 24/192 file formats and with the asynchronous transfer mode should be very competitive with the other digital inputs. Also the analog, buffer and output stages are all tube-based, so I am interested how that compares to my ARC CD 7. It just seems like an interesting doohickey for $6K

Here is a link to Aesthetix's page on their new digital offerings: aes encryption key des rsa at aesthetix.net

Looks like besides the $6K Romulus CD/DAC, they are also introducing the $5K Pandora DAC (essentially a Romulus but without the CD ROM drive).

I'm still absorbing info from all my new lines; Moon included.

BTW, it looks even better in person.
