I've never heard the Cary...what preamp do you use? You may be surprised by how good the 800 is...

Mike I've read a few comments about handshake issues with the hdmi on the 800. Have you every experienced that?

Mike,

I currently have the Marantz AV7005. I have little doubt that the 800 is excellent but I am curious as to how much more performance I will get for nearly double the cost of the Cary. It seems that the two (cost and performance) are not parallel, as I don't expect to get an even ratio of performance that reflects the difference in cost. But is it enough to warrant it? I hear the Anthem Statement D2v is also worth a look but I haven't heard it either...

Mike.......Your room looks very nice and the system is top notch, but the wall is crying for an 80" to 84" monitor. Turn those panels vertical and you'd have plenty of room.

Well, as you know, the difference in this hobby between equipment is not always a purely mathematical equation. I had a near top of the line Denon AVR previously and thought it couldn't get much better, I was incorrect. The Classe will never fill the need of a gadgets/features freak, what it will do is make your room sound more realistic for both movies and music. You can fine tune your room with the PEQ adjustments and just enjoy. No it doesn't have all the latest Audessy or Dolby versions, but I don't miss them.

John
My unit used to have some handshaking issues, but with the Oppo 105, I now have 2 HDMI outs, so I used the 2nd to go direct to my Projector, and they were gone. I also updated to the latest firmware and found much less of an issue even going through the 800. Since the 800 is not doing anything with the picture, it is your choice...the only thing you lose is the On Screen display from the 800.

Hahaha, thanks Dan, I appreciate you spending my money!!

I use the 60" Elite as the TV, the drop screen is 119" so it makes things nice and big...however, I do want to upgrade my JVC PJ sometime...waiting out this 4k stuff to see what happens for this generation or so...

How flexible is the embedded EQ? From the specs, the SSP 800 seems to have a more flexible and feature rich EQ than just about any other processor currently available, other than perhaps the ADA reference or Datasat RS20i. Does it allow you to basically choose any frequency for the ParEQ bands that are independent for each channel, or are there set frequencies? I assume there is full Q control of each EQ setting?
