Default Subwoofer

Here's a crazy thought...

I have a spare REL g2 sub sitting in my garage
(I had used it with my Sonus Faber Amati's with excellent results)

I wonder whether I should try it with the petite latours crossed over really really low. Matt thinks not. And no doubt he is right.

The only thing that stops me is lugging it back up 2 stories.

Has anyone ever attempted such sacrilege?

Freestone,

I think you need the exercise. And we need a report!

Well, good question. Maybe not that low. But I was thinking 20 or more likely 25.

I would give it a whirl at 25-30 db @ a 12 db slope, may tighten the very bottom up a little bit when needed.

Probably not but I just wanted the sub out of the way, not to interfere with the shindo's magical midrange ( which is where I think the real listening pleasure comes from)

Subwoofer shouldn't be used - it is incapable of keeping up with the musical energy the Petite's woofer/drivers are throwing out. This will create a slow and sloppy sound. The subwoofer driver can't keep up with the speakers, in other words. As speakers break in they can be adjusted for more bass presence. I'll be swingin' by soon.

I'd rather have a taught bass with plenty of transient snap and resolution and drive, say, to 30 or 35hz (just for example) than specs down to 2hz.
Speakers which advertise 20hz-20khz (for example) are full of musical compromise to be able to do that.

For Shindo, in the Petite Latour, he focus on a certain band of music, and makes it magic. The PL's will certainly not shy away from portraying all the depth and weight of stand up bass or the exhilaration of an electric bass..

I would ditto that. This is the mantra of most Altec users - they love fast, taught response that really shines in stand-up bass. Low HT special effects? Nah.
