Kev - did you pull the motor apart and clean/re-lube it? I found that when I did that to my 301 and 401 that it helped the noise floor quite a bit.

I don't have the clamp. I have the mat though. I realize that without the clamp and plinth I might be missing out on the fully "tuned" system, but I wasn't going to miss the chance to pick up these pieces just for that reason! I'm hoping that the positive Shindo vibes come through anyway. I know a few people with Shindo clamps and maybe I can borrow one to test the difference.

Not yet, but I intend to. I'm replacing the idler, springs, and bearing/spindle/platter.

You may have to know a guy that knows a guy that knows a machinist in Italy. This beauty was designed to go with the custom brass platter and spindle / bearing housing. It's HEAVY, so I can't say it wouldn't damage a stock Garrard. If you're interested, I can perhaps arrange an introduction, but I certainly don't want to be seen as a broker of Shindo forgeries...it's not a Shindo, the appearance is reminiscent of Shindo. It's custom, was offered to me by a wonderful fellow - a real hifi hobbyist is the Japanese sense - who made this and the platter and bearing parts for himself and a few friends, and may not be suitable for general use.

Hi Kev313,
I have the same bearing, platter and clamp with a shindo mat on my 301 housed in a solid cherry plinth from the same guy from Italy. Do you think it sounds better than the original shindo parts? Do share your opinion. Tristan |

I do not know. I haven't finished cleaning and won't be using the Shindo parts on this table unless I have a whole mess of extra time on my hands to take it apart again and compare. I can say this, both sets are beautifully machined and they are difficult to compare in the fit and finish department as the Shindo platter is painted. The custom platter is waaaay heavier tho!

That's why I am asking for a delrin riser to be fitted together with the bearing to prevent any rubbing. The plinth you have is beautiful.
