For any critical listening the two wicker chairs and the coffee table have to go; reflections off the glass in front of you won't help the soundstage any.

I agree. I just fold the chairs out to the sides, put some cushions on the glass table and crank up the volume . But the single most rewarding adjustment was speaker placement.

One thing I did to make it easier to make small adjustments was to make some speaker "sleds" as shown in the picture. I tried furniture slides but the ones I got were easily pierced by the speaker spikes. So I made these out of 1/2" ply. I rounded over the bottom edges, and then wrapped in 6 mil plastic. I have to move my right speaker anytime I want to get to the back of my rack (which has been a lot recently) and these sleds make it a snap. Once in the right position I simply tilt the speaker in one direction, and then the other, and the sleds are out. A lot fewer holes in the carpet now too!

I take the spikes off during the process, then the furniture pads work great.
