When a speaker uses more than one driver, it uses a cross-over circuit to cause one driver to operate in one frequency range and the other driver in the other frequency range. The simplest cross-over is a resister that block a frequency range (for example, bass blockers in car audio that keep tweeters from dying trying to reproduce a full signal). Many speakers have very complex internal cross-overs. Assuming that the cross-overs are working perfectly (i.e., woofer handles low and tweeter handles high with no discernible overlap) one still has a time problem. Small drivers move short distances to create high notes. Bigger woofers have to move farther to create long notes. Thus, if a piece of music has high and low notes that are supposed to be simultaneous, the challenge for the speaker designer is to make that happen when the bigger driver is inherently slower than the smaller one. Designers use electrical delay in the cross-over circuit, or tilt back tweeters to take advantage of off-axis response, or rake speaker height, or some combination of all of these. When you have two different designs of speakers I would think it would be a bear to get them to play simultaneously enough to sound linear. The proof is, of course, how do they sound?
I copied and pasted what you wrote into an electronic stickies. There's a lot of info here!

Because I am so new, I simply love the sound. Though, as my HIFI maturity grows, I very well may pick up on these nuances.

So great that you showed your rig off David, please do not refrain yourself from doing so. What is left then to us pedestrian wanna be audiophiles whose systems are "well beyond modest" hiding in a living room somewhere among diplomas, fruit bowls and a tacky wooden camel statue that gives people the creeps?

Lovely setup indeed mate and may your quest continue.

Here it is again. Keep in mind, this is located in my office, so the setting is not yet ideal until my new house and dedicated music room is built.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread.

Waiting on the VAC Renaissance SE phono to return from Sarasota -- thus the empty 2d shelf left.

Best Sirs,

Bob

Best Sirs,

With all your upgrades, I think you should have your own system thread, Bob! Incredible system you are building, congratulations! Nothing, I mean nothing, beats d'agostino and Wilson.

There is something truthful about that Serge -- and thanks Sir. Your past audio journeys are very vivid in my memory. and enjoy reading your new excursions. Glad to see you back on AA too.

Best Sir,

Bob
