Jerry,

Great description. That is exactly how I would describe the DSP8ks. A truly unique product.

Jerry, very nice review! It is clear to me that you have found the music, with no real need to "upgrade." Congrats!!

Jerry... Great review. Since what we are all after is finding happiness when listening to our music you seemed to have found "nirvana". Can the Meridian system be used for H/T (surround sound)? If so how does it sound? New toys are fun too but that is what 2nd & 3rd systems can be for. A somewhat local dealer sells Meridian, I think I will go and have a listen in the near future.

Yes, the Meridian can be "lego" build into a full HT system by adding the following:

1. 800v4 - CD/DVD Video/Audio machine. Unfortunately, Meridian did not venture into Bluray (as yet?). This is, by itself a very good DVD player, for both Video and audio. I have seen and can say, indeed one of the best DVD Video machines. The DVD Audio part is also exemplary.

2. 861v6 - This is the sound processor and you can read all about it in reviews. Definitely one of the top around, regardless of brand.

3. Then you can add speakers to go with it. You can add another 2.5 pairs of DSP8k SL & their own subs (very high cost) for a complete 7.1 HT. For me, My dream is to add one more pair of DSP8k SL for the rear, DSP7.2kHC for the Centre and their subs for a 5.1 system. Still a very high cost HT system.

In summary, yes, Meridian can be build up to a full blown HT system. In fact, one of the nicest around as all connections are but a Ethernet Cat 6 or Cat 7 cable.

Hope this helps. If not, visit Meridian to view more details. Hope this helps.

Cheers

HT is perfect for Meridian since all the speakers can be wired daisy chained.

As Jerry mentioned there is no M BR but an oppo through a Meridian 621 which splits the video and audio apart is perfect and what i used to do. Then all you need is a 861 processor and add three more speakers. I used a DSP7000 for the centre and two small DSP 3100 for the rears (which I still have and are fantastic).

Jeff,

Make sure you call ahead before going to your dealer. I'm in CT as well and I'm not aware of dealers with a pair of 8ks. You can arrange to trek down to NYC and visit the Meridian office in Soho. They have the 8ks set up with their monster projector. Your dealer should be able to arrange this for you.

My system started out as an 808 with 8ks. It quickly morphed into an HT setup with an 861, a 7200 center and two 5200s as surrounds. I share Jerry's opinion of the 8ks performance.
