Default Sooloos - 2.1 Build 324 delivers 24bit/192kHz!!

Latest Update.

I have done mine - pushed thru the cloud.

Important: DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING IF DIFFERENT! JUST RE-BOOT the entire system.

Enjoy!

Are you saying that SooLoos will now play 24/192 files? Have you confirmed this?

Now if they would only add a CD burner drive to the unit, I might consider it as a viable option.

Funny, how we always want "just one more feature"

Yes! It does NOW! As long as the rest of the playback chain support!

I have some 400 CD tracks that are 192 .... and they now are playing as clear (if not clearer) than before. I just cant wait to hear them when back from work tonight.

Ivan, the only thing the Sooloos had going for it was its interface. The sound quality when not run thru an external DAC was unacceptable, the inability to play 24/176 & 24/192 files limits what hi-res downloads you could play, and not having the option of burning playlists or CD's put it behind other servers on the market. We can take care of the DAC issue, and it looks like they might be moving on the hi-res issue. I hope that they are not down-converting the tracks.

Hi Jim,

No, they are NOT down-converting as far as I know. Like I said, as long as the rest of the system support, it should be "musical". I am trying to get my dealer to check if there's a need to do something to my speakers too - as they do have DAC's in them.

Yes, the Sooloos does have limitation to what you wanted ... to which an Apple iTunes could fulfill. Not defending Meridian just because I own it, but for the playback quality, so far, there is none that can match its performance in term of musicality as far as I have auditioned, especially thru the ID40 card (in the 861v6 or even better - actually best - thru the 808.3). This is true as the 808.3 architecture is optimized for the AUDIO playback while the 861v6 is for maximizing the HT playback. I will not go into the interface cause this is a well known Meridian feature - but not the only one that sells Sooloos.

In fact, as time passes, seemingly Victor's "prophecy" comes true as I am playing lesser and lesser (in fact not once for a long time) CD and if not for some change in "taste", I would have question myself why did I buy such an expensive TT with equal arm and cartridge to match. BUT of course, onece the needle hits the groove, every question is answered by what cometh from the speakers. A different enjoyment altogether.

OK, no more hard selling to you my dear friend on the Sooloos. That is my story. You choose what makes you happy. I am happy, very - with my Meridian.

Yahoo!

OK, now to contact my dealer about the speakers ....

I am sure your SooLoos sounds great using the DAC's in the 808.3, and that is what I meant by adding a quality DAC to the unit. Since the 808,3 only does 24.96 you will have to figure out a way of handling those hi-res files you can now play. As you note, maybe they will update the DAC's in your speakers.

Hi Jim,

This is the buzz in "Meridian-Town" as everyone is checking IF any or none of the current Meridian gears, like the C10, C15, 808.2, 808.3 (ID40), 861v6 (ID40) and DSP8000, DSP8000SL will play 24/192. My dealer told me my system WILL play 24/192. I dont think I can believe that 100%. Will have him come over the weekend to show me - technically, that is really happening.

So far, my experience with the Meridian/Sooloos system is nothing short of exemplarily musical. Just hope this change, if it does do what it says, will bring my enjoyment up to another level. I must say I will be very happy cause it does not cost me a cent. For this will be the first time for in the past, every move is about forking out more monies!

Cheers!

Well they use the "RME Hammerfall DSP 9632" internally. Which is capable of 24/192. Now is the software capable of playing at that resolution? So if they provided a software update, then you are good to go. I have the same card in my win7 PC. So I was able to manually test using the MDA1000 for output read outs.
