Alexx is still relatively new so it’s not going to be replaced. The XLF is there for comparison for a reason even though it’s not being “replaced.”

Maybe XLF like performance in a smaller foot print.

It's an interesting guessing game.

The Woofers in that left spkr do look smaller than the XLF, but keep in mind the Woofers on the WAMM (10.5 and 12.5) are smaller than the XLF (13 and 15). And, the Alexx uses the WAMM woofers.

It's the use of the Chronosonic name that intrigues me. At present any speaker with Chronosonic in its name brings immediate associaton with the WAMM, and I suspect Wilson sees value in that association and the lineage its use will create, tracing back to David Wilson. Remember the WAMM is limited production - Bill are they all sold? Imagine the Wilson lineup without the WAMM. I'd be surprised if a speaker named Chronosonic was second in the line-up behind a speaker named Alexandria.

If any of that makes sense, it could be the Chronosonic XVX is the new top tier model. The XLF is what, somewhere around $220K? We're told the XVX is not $400k, but there's a lot of room between $220K and $400K to fit, say, a $335K+ speaker.

Joe P.'s 5 drivers question is also interesting. (It's actually 6 on the WAMM, 4 midrange and 2 tweeters, one rear firing - yeah I too forget about the one in the back .) With its rear firing tweeter, the XLF has 4. If the XVX has 5 or 6, that's a pretty good sign its going in the WAMM's spot.

Again - it's all speculation - we'll know soon enough. Fun!

Bill, I have always defined production by the date the speaker is available to the consumer. Personally, I would never buy a speaker until it had been available to the consumer for at least 6 months unless its something like a Thor, which is a very simple device. If you remember, there was some question about the front port of the Alexx that had yet to be ironed out. My timing for a purchase of a speaker is after there has been an initial review or two or three and in production for about a year.

The WAMM actually has 7 drivers above the woofer cabinet, 5 forward firing and a top enclosure mounted rear firing mid and tweeter.

Thanks for that info. The specs mention the rear firing tweeter, but not a rear firing (fifth) midrange. Too bad I don't have a pair or I'd know that. :-)

Wow, I just checked the on line spec sheet and you are correct! That said, the press release has a section devoted to it and there is a corresponding pic on the website under images.
