I agree with Phi_er_ up completely about the MKII. He's on the money about the selection of HDMI cable. Sadly, PS Audio's cable does not do the unit justice. I went with Harmonic Tech's audio only HDMI and it made a huge difference...not very expensive either. The Wireworld is also a great choice. That said, I now use a Shunyata Python digital XLR and it kills everything else I've heard...got the idea from several other MKII users. Now that the digital lens is applied to all inputs, the I2S isn't your only option for optimal sound.

Just hooked up the PWD II with Bridge onto the home network. Never done a network before. Everything seemed to hook up easily. eLyric works well.

Sound out of the box is very good but a bit bright. Hopefully some break-in and perhaps changing the firmware will smooth it out a bit. I will also play with the filters, but initially like 4 and 5.

4N6,

The board needs at least 100 hours of break in. I recommend the 2.0.2 firmware because the stock firmware is *indeed* harsh...many users concur with what you're hearing. I would've sent my unit back if I'd had to keep post 2.0.2 firmware. Here's one tip...as you play with settings and inputs, be sure you set each and every one to Native X...for whatever reason the unit defaults to Native until you choose the Native X option and it stores to memory. Without Native X, one can't hear the unit's full potential.

Vance,

Thanks for the recommendations. I will try to get the firmware changed ASAP.

BTW, is there a current Owners Manual available? The one online @ the PS Audio website seems geared towards the Mk. I PWD.

I'd suggest posting something on the forums about that. They really should have a revised manual but I've not seen it.

BTW, when you get the new firmware, you'll need to remove all files from the SD card that came with your upgrade and save those files on your desktop. Then unzip the 2.0.2 file (can be downloaded from the forums) and transfer each of the files individually to the card. Once you insert the SD card, make sure your preamp/amp are off before you reboot your PWD. It could harm your system if you don't do this.

Please post an update when you try it. I'm curious to know what you think.

Help! Upgraded to the 2.0.2 firmware on my PWD II and now have a "white screen". I know I have seen people talk about this before but I could not find the posts. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Kevin,

What a drag! I've never had any problems with this, so I suggest sending a pm to Gordon on the PSAudio forum. He's the guru on firmware. I'd also call Boulder and get a ticket started. They need to know when stuff like this happens.
Sorry you're having issues.
