Excellent analogy. I definitely feel like Steinheimer, but without the photos to show I was watching as they went by.

Looking very forward to this upgrade. Can anyone name one DAC maker that would provide the customer the option to upgrade the hardware ? (The venerable Madrigal Labs did). Kudos to PS Audio. They lived up to their promise of no obsolescence with the Perfect Wave system.

Simaudio just announced that on both their 650D and 750D CD/DACs existing customers will be able to change out digital input board so that the USB input would support 24/192 from its current 16/44 functionality (and can be done at dealer so no need to send unit back to Sim).

Empirical Audio routinely offers an upgrade path to his existing customers as his products are always evolving and existing customers can participate in the product evolutions as they go through upgrades.

there are others too but slipping my mind right now...

Just installed mark II upgrade to PSAudio PWD. Easy install - superb instructions via booklet and video. Everything needed was supplied and then some. No issues. Turned it on, upgraded firmware, plugged in wireless USB dongle, opened up elyric app and......

Wow!!!! A huge difference noticed on first notes. More 3d in imaging....rounder. Bigger airier soundstage. Moreexplosive dynamics that I didn't hear from the PWD before...more grunt, more texture, more presence. More extension especially with bass. Better decay. Sounds more analogue. Way worth the price. Soooooo good. PS Audio rocks!

While not a DAC, Linn did and continues to offer owners of their Klimax Digital Streamer (KDS) an upgrade option with completely new boards and offered, for a limited time, an option to create a second music streamer with the old boards...a most impressive upgrade BTW! reminds me I need to update my signature...

Thanks for the update. What is the source of the music you are feeding the upgraded DAC?

I have two sources fed via wireless USB dongle on back of PWD. First is a simple USB hard drive plugged into netgear router 3700 -- aiff type files. Second is my MacBook pro with lossless files in iTunes fed via elyric computer app.

I concur with your assesssment. I have the type A board. Install was a snap and w/o issue. The DAC is now a new improved animal. I feed it source via the PWT I2S connection and run native X

Thanks - is native x show up as "native" in the sampling rate selection?

No, there is both Native and Native X options now showing. Native X sounds way better, imo.
