Default Burson Audio HA-160D Headphones Amp & DAC unboxing video

Just got this yesterday from Burson Audio through their Loaner Program. I get to keep it for two weeks. Very nice of them to do this. The amp is HEAVY! Check out my unboxing video.

Initial impressions?

IMO, the unit sounds great as a dac/pre, standalone dac, and as a dac/headphone amp. I've also heard it pushing a pair of Hifiman HE-5LE's, wow.

How are you liking the HA-160D? I have been using mine for a while now and really have been enjoying it.

Mike.......Nice unboxing video, but I found myself cringing every time you sat a headphone stand or amp on the plexiglass top. Hey, that's just me I guess.

The Burson Audio HA-169D has been of interest to me, also. I communicated with John Delmo of Burson Audio about the stepped attenuator. He told me the steps are equal throughout the 24 positions. I asked if Burson makes a stepped attenuator with an audio taper, and he said no, but that Burson can certainly customize the output gain level for you if you can send your phones to them in Australia. He went on to say, "Our decision to adopt a step attenuator over a standard pot was based on performance. Yes, a standard pot is easier to use, but our step attenuator sounds better."

The Burson Audio HA-160 and HA-160D look to be well designed and crafted. I am looking forward to reading your review of its performance. If you post your review on Head-Fi, do us a favor and copy the post here.

Cyril.......Thanks for connecting the dots for me.

I would still like to read an indepth report about the Burson Audio HA-160D. There is a fair amount of good press out there about this particular headphone amplifier. Mike simply said he lost interest in it after a few days. That is not much of a review.

Mike.......Box that Burson HA-160D back up and ship it to me to review. I'll put the Burson Audio HA-160D through a comparison with my Musical Fidelity X-Can with Gold Lion tubes and post my fiindings here. When I complete the review I'll ship the Burson back to you. PM me for my shipping address. What do you think.
