Need some good advice, please

Yeah did try sending mike a pm but could'nt im not wealthy enough to justify £15 just to send somone a message lol i would if i were in that position, @masterlu dude £999 is the best i can get and theres no way on earth im spending a grand on headphones lol! unless i win the lottery, besides i read that the beyer T1 telsa are much better and about £250 cheaper but even then thats to much i got three kids to feed. £400 is my very uttmost unfortunatly.

The beyer T70 are not out in the U.S. yet. I did preorder one.

I highly recommend the Beyer DT770 for Closed back or the DT990 for Open back. The bass kick on the DT990 is amazing. The highs has good sparkle, but not bright. At well under $400, you can't beat it.

I agree the Beyers are very good, and so are the Denons. The Grados too, but a little warmer.

I think headphones are even more idiosyncratic than speakers, so I recommend listening for yourself, however you can. In the US, some stores (like Music Direct) will sell them to you and let you return them for a full refund if they aren't what you had expected.

Or go the big headphone users website (I don't think I'm allowed to mention names or post links) and look for user meets and shows where there will be many different headphones and amps to try.

Thanks for the advice mike i like the look of the dt770, nice and cheap too only £120 one cant help wonder if there to be much better then the hd380s as i paid the same for them but ima get them anyway, then maybe upgrade to the T70's when im a bit more plush

Masterlu has mentioned HD800 headphones. I own them and think they are great, but the knock on them by some reviewers is that they can be cold and clinical. The bass is constantly criticized as being too light unless the volume is cranked up. I think all of this is true. One respected reviewer wouldn't be without them, but as reference headphones, as sound engineers might use them. He says that they come to life with a powerful amp, like the Schiit Lyr. I also own LCD-2s, and understand where he's coming from, although I don't own a Lyr. I admire the HD800s, but love the LCD-2s, above all for their rich, warm sound. If I hear the HD800s on a Lyr, I might change my view of them, and more importantly, take them out of the box, where they have been since I bought the LCD-2s.
