Default Clarification

In a thread I said that in my opinion the C52/MCT450 combo would be far superior to a MCD1100 in regards to anything digital. That was hyperbole. What I should have said that in my opinion the computer audio would be significantly superior using Jrivers through the C52 USB input. I had my MCD1100 upgraded at the factory to 2.0. Using my older Windows 7 laptop and my upgraded MCD1100 and comparing the audio to my D1100/Windows 10 setup, the audio through the latter is very significantly superior. I am assuming there is very little difference in sound quality regarding computer audio between a C52 and D1100. To my ears although I believe I do hear differences between using the MCD1100 as a transport to the D1100 as opposed to a CD/SACD player, the differences are in my opinion minor. The MCD1100 in my opinion remains a reference quality CD/SACD player but not so much regarding computer audio.

Incidentally, my C-1000 preamp is out of my system. I have ordered a MR87 tuner which will be connected to a digital input on my D1100, thus making the outputs from all my front end sources including my LD player remaining digital before their conversion to analog by the D1100. The D1100 has become my preamplifier. Removing my C-1000 has significantly simplified my system. I have no interest in tone controls or vinyl.

Please review that MR-87 tuner when you hook it up. I believe that it's just an MR-88 minus XM and IBOC/HD. I love my MR-88 and believe that it's one of the best tuners ever made in terms of both selectivity and sound quality (I also have in my tuner collection a Marantz 10B, Sequerra One, HK Citation IIIx, and Sony XDR-F1HD.... The MR-88 beats 'em all in every aspect).

I'm curious to know your opinion of the MR-87.

I had a C47 which is basically a C52 without meters. I upgraded to the D1100 and it sounds significantly better. I also use JRiver for USB computer audio.

To clarify, are you using the D1100 as a preamp or as a DAC and then feeding the C52 an analog signal?

The D1100 is being used as the preamp, the C47 is gone.

Sorry about my earlier question, I had misread your original post and thought you also had the C52. That’s what I get for not wearing my reading glasses.

Do you have any knowledge about the c52 and it's firmware history?

I have an MR88 as well and love the thing! I ;listen to it 2-3 hours daily. Unfortunately I can't receive HD and my favorite station which I get fine in FM stereo comes in great in HD in my car but not in my house using a Magnum Dynalab ST-2 antenna.
