Vicoustic Varibass.
Put 2 of these into my listening area today & the impact was noticeable straight away, I think they are a good thing as they do tame unwanted noise as well.

I elected to go with the Wavewood super bass extreme corner bass traps. Love the Wavewood panels too which can also be used as corner traps!! The Wavewood is their best panel IMO. Last edited by MyPal; 06-18-2012 at 08:42 AM. |

Hi Steve, yes they are a good thing. I was looking at the panels but for now will buy gear that will go into a new place easily. What you have or similar is on the radar in the future for my 2 channel/theatre set-up.

I agree the VariBass Helmholtz resonators have the potential to reduce narrow room nodes in the bass area. Which is what plagues many of us. Traditional bass traps operate over a couple of octaves, and often throw the baby out with the bathwater.
But I don't find the VariBass particularly efficient. I have 4 in my largest listening room, which has an aggressive 52Hz room node, with an associated harmonic at 104Hz. The effect of the VariBass is somewhere between small and negligible. To be fair to VIcoustic, they recommend 8 units for a room around half the volume of mine. For my room size, they say to contact them, LOL! They use foam rather than fiberglass with many of their products, which is not as effective according to most acoustic sites. Although I am never sure quite what to believe in this area. But their products are much better looking than most, which to me is an important consideration. |
