What did you end up with? I just bought a Cary DAC 100 and love it. I haven't heard the 100t though..............

That would definitely be the ideal situation.

Never had a tube or SS Dac separate at all. Did have a tube headphone amp hooked up to my Rotel CD player and it was very nice, never got a chance to roll any tubes though.

I ended up going with a Monarchy Audio NM24 that I posted about in another thread. The recommendations in both standard press reviews and among modders on other forums were over the top. And I liked the idea of working with essentially a one-man operation. (I have a Dennis Had Inspire tube amp as well, though it a different system.) The NM-24 is an interesting piece of gear that incorporates both a tube DAC and a solid state DAC as well as a line stage tube preamp. I upgraded the tubes in the DAC just a tad from the Sovtek tubes it came with to some Russian Rocket NOS tubes. I'm very happy with the performance and versatility, but still working on rounding out the system. It would be interesting to compare to the Cary DAC.

How does the tube compare to the SS? I tried a tube DAC back in the day and found it too soft for rock and pop music.
I bought a Cary 100 and it is blowing me away. I haven't tried the 100t in ny system. Now I'd like to............... Didn't go tube because my system is all tube as it is. All Cary. |

Totaldac equals most tube DACs IMO and you don't have to cope with tubes.

There aren't lots of Tube Dacs out there compared to SS. Off the top of my head Cary Audio and Audio Research both have Tube Dacs. I'm sure there are others.
