Another System Going
As I mentioned awhile back we decided to eliminate another one of the systems in our home. This system had not been upgraded in about 11 or 12 years and we were going to have someone come in and reconfigure the cabinets for non audio or video applications. The unit is large, about 9 1/2 foot high by 13 foot wide and plenty deep as it was built to handle a 62" RPTV.
It turns out that it was almost the same price to have a new unit built from scratch as it was to add some doors, match the stain and reconfigure the unit. They started building the unit before Christmas and now that we are back from vacation they are going to tear out this unit and start installing the new unit later this week. I spent 6 hours today pulling and removing all the wiring and interconnects, cleaning up gear that hasn't been moved in years and getting ready for tomorrow when they will help pull out the TV and speakers. The only gear that will go into the new cabinet (behind doors that will run along the bottom) will be what is required to distribute music to my whole house system. I will continue to use a Carver Amp & Pre, reconnect a SonoS unit that accesses my MS-300 in the 2-channel room, a 100 disc CD changer for my wife's music and the Niles switching unit. It looks like I will try and put this cabinet on Craigs List, which I have never used before, and then decide what is worth putting on A-Gon (Amp and Speakers) and what I will possibly dump, (VCR, Tivo Unit) and unknown (Elite LaserDisc Player, 3 channel amp, Control unit, DVD Player, Sub Woofer, pre-amp and DAC). When I finally had the unit empty this afternoon I mentioned to my wife I should have done this first because I could have probably found a way of spending money on some large vases to go where the speakers are, a large art object to fill in for the TV and just used the shelves for books, thus saving us some a large chuck of change. She said I was just trying to buy more gear. Smart lady. I left the ladder in the pic's for scale. Jim Last edited by Still-One; 02-08-2010 at 06:06 PM. |

Well I posted most of my gear from this system on A-gon this afternoon and so far so good. I have already sold the center channel speaker, the Infinity Ren 90's, the sub is gone if I want to pack and ship it (2 guys want it) , the Sumo amp is close, and the center rear amp is waiting a decision.

It really was a good day.
Center Channel - Sold and shipped 3-Channel Amp - Sold and Shipped Main Speakers - Sale pending , will transfer Sat Main Amp - 2 interested parties, possible Saturday transfer Sub Woofer - 3 full price offers, but they want me to ship and I would have to make boxes Laser/CD - No interest yet (No surprise) Pre/Controller - No interest yet Pre and DAC - Not listed yet It is easier when you are just trying to unload gear and not trying to get that last dollar. Well the old cabinets are out. It took 4 1/2 guys to move that old center unit the the garage.
Here are a few pics as they are getting ready to start installing the new units. They new unit is actually a little wider and about 6" taller than the old. No gear will be installed except for that required to run the whole house system, and it will be behind the doors. |
