Not sure of what your budget is but there are a couple of used units in the for sale section........ MCD500 is great performer also.

Does the BDP-93 lose much to the 95? I didn't realise it was so cheap.

I think Bob (Vintage_Tube) must have removed the MCD1100 from the for sale section..... I think is was approximately $6500 (cant remember exactly). If you are interested I would PM him....

...And the XLR balanced connections. 1. If you are using the analog outputs, the 95 is your ticket. [$999] 2. If you are using the digital HDMI connection, the 93 is your ticket. [$499] {By the way, both models have dual HDMI outs.} ...No more no less. RECAP: 1. BDP-95 = ANALOG 2. BDP-93 = DIGITAL |

As a universal player, the Oppo 95 is hard to beat.
The transport is identical to the Oppo 93 so it reads all discs very quickly and does not seem to complain much with whatever discs I throw at it. I have seen some SACDs not being read as CDs on my Denon 4010 universal player (which is also noticeably slower at reading discs) and my Marantz SA8003. But the 95 is more refined with a better power supply and a better DAC and has much better analog circuitry vs the 93. If you are using the player as a transport and using an HDMI cable to your AV receiver, the 93 is a more sensible buy since you are bypassing the DACs on the player. Get the 95 if you are looking for a reasonably good player for your HT and your stereo setup. If your budget can stretch further... If you are serious about sound quality for multi-channel SACD/BR/DVDA playback, I think my ultimate combo still has to be the Denon two box solution: the A1UD universal transport with the A1HDC (DSX XT32 HDMI 1.4) AV pre/pro hooked up using HDMI and DenonLink 3/4. The master clock control IMHO makes a difference with BD PCM audio and DL3 sounds very good as a DSD/SACD connection vs HDMI. If price is no object and you are looking for 2 channel SACD only, have a listen to a. EMM Labs (XDS1 or the new 2 box TSDX+DAC) b. Playback Designs MPS5 (have experience with both the XDS1 and MPS5 in my own system) c. Esoteric K-01/03 d. dCS Puccini (heard those in showrooms, with the Puccini vs XDS1 in the same setup) but still preferred my first 2 choices. |

For music - CD & SACD, please look at the BDP-95 You will probably not be able to tell the difference between the two machines for the playing of video discs, but for music there is a distinct advantage with the 95 with its far superior internal circuitry and analogue outputs.
