I upgraded to the Spire last year from the Vantage. It was a big step up. I haven't heard the Montis yet, but those who have say it is a noticeable improvement over the Spire. Here is a review of the Montis by Jeff Dorgay, who has owned or at least heard all of Martin Logan speakers of the last three generations: MartinLogan Montis Speakers – Reviews | TONEAudio MAGAZINE

Vantage ---> Ethos
-
-
-> Spire ---> Montis

Vista ---> Theos

The Spire, while indirectly replacing the Vantage (until the Ethos was introduced), was meant more to fill in the price gap between the Vantage/Ethos and the Summit/Summit X. The Ethos is a direct replacement of the Vantage while the Montis is the direct replacement for the Spire. The Theos is the Vista successor because the it has a non-powered woofer like the Vista.

ok thanks for clearing that up, anthony.
i have the vantage and i sometimes find it a bit wooly in the upper bass.
i suspect the montis or summit x (which crosses over even lower) may be the ticket, all other components being sorted.

thanks,

james

Hello Montis owners,

i have a question about the Montis installed in europe. as i know the montis-digital amp should be the same as in my summit x. it seems that some, maybe all digital sub-amps have a fanlike noise when active. this might be a 220 volt problem only. could any of you montis owners please check for me if thats true.
It doesn´t have to be music playing but the loudspeker should be in active mode. if you hold your ear close to the bass unit, the noise should be obvious. Really not very loud and for most listeners not disturbing but i want just to confirm this.
thanks
karl

Yup I hear it in just ONE of the summits's I own. Unfortunately, that same speaker conked out, no power at all.

Thanks for the info. It could be that only summits are involved to this.

I had contact to one owner in germany who had several attempts for repair but the german ditributor failed to do it. They said the noise was not recognisable in the shop.
I will try to visit some local martinlogan dealers in my aerea to find out.
Second step is to add a furman powerconditioner to the system.
