I actually DID use a Velodyne mic from my SMS-1 sub equalizer and it found that mic instantly and started the process of setting up Room Perfect and during a pause, I swapped mics and it continued the process until it gave the error that the room was too noisy along with a second part to that error.

When I took the OEM mic to the dealer and asked to temporarily trade mics, they checked with Chuck Hinton at McIntosh and both agreed that calibrated mics NEVER are bad and that it must be something else.

I did not swap cables, but am going to do so right now as desperate as I am.

Thanks for waking me up -- time for more tweaking...

Mike

Tried the Velodyne mic again -- no joy and tried its balanced cord with the Mc mic -- again, no joy.

Now when I tried the next half dozen times to run Room Perfect, it could not find the Mc mic (no microphone present was the error) and when it does this, it runs a sound through the left main speaker before it gives the missing microphone error.

For whatever reason, the next time I tried (probably by now, the 30-40th time today), it sent the test tone to each speaker in turn and then locked up on the last speaker to get the tone with an error that maximum volume was -17 dB and current volume was -14 dB (or something to that effect) and I have tried different volumes as well as turning the subs down and even off. The next half dozen attempts produced similar results but it did not always stop on the same speaker and keep that annoying tone blaring -- the speaker on which the tone hung up on seemed to have no pattern -- even stopping on a subwoofer one time.

By this time, the Denon AVP with Audyssey is seeming like a MUCH better choice -- if the dealer (whom I trust although the dealer is new to me) cannot make it right with Chuck's help and do so within a few business days, then it gets boxed up and sent back to McIntosh Labs for repair if the dealer will not take it back. Frankly, I have much greater expectations from McIntosh and my frustrations at this point have created a lot of disappointment from this $12K piece. Hopefully the solution is simple and I will forget about it.

Sigh...

Mike

Very odd, the only time I ever saw that error code was when the Mic was connected to the wrong input.

You are using the correct one.

Hi
I don't have much experiance with Macs room perfect but it's similar to my dbx PA+, it will detect if you have a noicy room and will not complete the autoEQ feature on dbx. So, I belive it has to do that your room have bad S/N ratio.
Just a thought.
Thanks

Why the mic could not be faulty ?
Are they all tested in the factory ?
The problem is not coming from a noisy room IMHO, cause the mic is not detected at the beginning of the process.
Either the mic is faulty, since you eliminated the cable option, or there is something wrong on the circuit.
I would try an other calibrated Mc mic first. These are made in China...

First step of the process is to connect the mic. Then the unit says if he detects a mic or not, without sending any noise.
He said that the original mic could not be detected. So the room has nothing to see with his problem IMHO.

I agree..

If a new MC mic (and cable to be safe), doesn't solve the problem... Then it's likely you'll need to have that baby packed back up and shipped back.

I hope it's the Mic though.
