Default Solar Eclipse 2017

Last fall we made reservations to be in middle Tennessee for the total solar eclipse on August 21, 2017. We're taking our Airstream to Rock Island State Park where the duration of totality is expected to last 2 minutes, 34 seconds. When we made the reservations, it didn't seem like a big deal but apparently people from around the globe are descending onto the path for this out of the ordinary event. Anyone else planning to travel into the darkness?

Absolutely! I saw the 1970 total solar eclipse in North Carolina. It's an incredible experience.
Kelly and I are headed to somewhere near Douglas, WY.
I'll have my Questar 3.5" telescope with solar filters and a variety of cameras.
I'm really looking forward to seeing an eclipse again.

Absolutely, I can't wait, I'm gonna check my daughter out of school that morning and head NE toward the border of Georgia, SC and NC. I'm only about an hour and a half from the path of totality. I'll probably wait on the weather that day since I have the option of going north toward the Tenn/NC mountains, NE toward Clemson/Greenville or straight east toward Columbia depending on weather. If it's cloudy and rainy here in the SE that day I'm gonna be p*****!

We'll watch it locally from the banks of the Delaware River at our local state park. It will attract a wide range of people including some with tin foil hats I'm sure.

We've been at the Airstream factory in Ohio for the past few days having some tweaks done on our Classic 30. I've been amazed at the level of enthusiasm for this event. People from all over the world will be congregating on a narrow band across the US to witness it. We are really looking forward to it.

This is interesting as it relates to our hobby. Only two songs actually mention total eclipse by name. Both are classics.

"You’re so Vain" by Carly Simon
. . . you flew your Lear jet up to Nova Scotia
To see a total eclipse of the sun

"Eclipse" by Pink Floyd from ‘Dark side of the Moon’
… and everything under the sun is in tune
but the sun is eclipsed by the moon.

Hi Terry, I'm not going far from home. I plan to watch at Watts Bar Dam. Speaking of dams, there's one right next to Rock Island - Great Falls Dam. Check it out while you're over there. Have fun.
