thanks, I sent VPI an email the other day and I'm waiting on a reply. I travel 5 days a week and have not had time to call them. I will try tomorrow. I will post what they say. Thanks for the help.

By upgrading the arm mount you can go from the 9" JMW arm to the 10" 3D arm. You can also upgrade to the new aluminum platter if you had the old acrylic one, along with installing the mini-HRX feet.
Ask me how I know. ;-) |

Have you done this and was it worth it? |

I heard the biggest improvement moving to first the 10" JMW arm and then again moving to the 10" 3D. Note that updating to the 10" tonearm mount does require drilling new mounting holes on the plinth, but VPI used to have a kit that made it all rather painless; no idea if they still do. |

Somehow I missed this for three months.
The new arm mount completely covers the old holes. I don't want to say it would be impossible with a hand drill, but it took a bit of time with a power drill as the VPI plinth material is rather hard to drill. I'm sure with perseverance and time it could be done with a hand drill, especially if that's all you have and you can't buy or borrow a power drill. |
