Honda plastic deck
I have had a Honda with "plastic" deck for 10 years.
I live on the Gulf Coast - a lot of salt water in the area. In fact - my house is about 100 yards from Pensacola Bay. I had a Toro, with a metal deck, that lasted about 10 years, until the deck rusted out. The engine was running fine, but the deck broke where you had to put your foot to hold it down to start. When I got the Honda, I was hesitant about the "plastic" deck - but after 10 years on the Coast - with plenty of salty moisture in the atmosphere - I am convinced it was the way to go! Don't worry about it lasting - I will have to replace the rear tires (worn down to "slicks" from powering the machine) long before I have to worry about the deck. Thanks, Jim |

I have had a Honda self-propelled mower for the past 10 years and it is still in great shape.

I have a ten year old Honda with the plastic deck and the green bulbed lever to determine what percentage is bagged vs mulched. It has always started on the first or second pull. I have not been gentle with it and have also never winterized it. It is so perfect that I bought a Honda single stage snow blower (which unfortunately was a complete peice of garbage.)

I have a Honda nexlite deck, double blade for 6 years old. Best mower ever love it in the fall for mulching and bagging leaves my rake never comes out.

My Honda plastic deck mower died last summer. It was having some issues with the drive train that I attributed to a clutch that needed adjustment. I brought it in for the spring service and got a call from Mike, the owner of the shop.
"Bob, your mower needs a new transmission." "Really?! It's only about 6-7 years old!" "Bob, you've had it for 14 years. It'll be $400 for a transmission or $600 and change for a new mower." I got a new mower. - Bob

Honda
Agreed. Honda all the way for us. Lawnmower, snowblower, and generator.
Kids and wife can pull start generator (and lawnmower/snowblower, but that is more of a theoretical exercise).
