very true, many time I recline on the sofa close the eyes while wearing my dark motorcycle shades, and I am in a very dimly lit basement when lights are off during the day.

I am a firm believer that lack of vision improves hearing.

I should know my poor eye site requires 1450 power correction just to see 20-80 and 20-120.

Not even legal with correction.

ouch..

Those look like the glasses I got the last time I went for my Eye Exam!

A agree that you seem to hear more when you close your eyes or darken the room to remove the visual stimulus.

Some of that "better hearing" will be due to a subtle change in sound due to Head-related transfer function - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If I start wearing something like those I think my wife might whack me over the head while there on or probably leave me.

Maybe Ivan can provide some eye masks at the Cape party and do a real life test.

Musicmask - In Focus With the Music
I actually turn down the lights and - for serious listening sessions - put on a a "regular" eye mask. It makes a very noticeable differences. Once the brain is free from visual cues, it become much more attuned to the music and it (the brain) "creates" an amazing virtual soundstage on some records.

Of course, get very good soundstage with my eyes open, but somehow the visual clues of the wall and ceiling are integrated with the sonic cues so the illusion is not as "stable".

My best listening session of all times, Pink Floyd's "The Wall" a week or so ago, was done in the "dark" with a mask. From beginning to end, it felt like I was in a giant roofless arena. It was awesome.

I am not sure I'd spend $50 for a special audiophile edition, but you really ought to try a regular pair of masks - they work better than just closing your eyes unless you have a totally dark room.

Thanks for starting this thread!

Alberto
