Bryston 28B 28B SST 2
Absolute Sound was smitten with the Bryston 28B SST2 amplifier this year, awarding it the Absolute Sound Editors Choice Award 2009. It is a 1000 watts into 8 ohms balanced amplifier, completely hand built, and is supported with the Bryston 20 year warranty. It comes in black or silver, with or without handles. It looks good.

Interesting review.
Reviewers always seem to like Bryston. These seem like they are right in between the 501 and the 1.2k's... both in power and price. Question... Would you switch from Mc amps for these? |

I have not listened to the Bryston 28B SST2 amp. I have auditioned the Bryston 4B SST2 stereo amp (300 watts). Comparing it to my MC352 it seemed a bit sterile, closer to the Krell sound. Bryston enjoys a huge loyal following, similar to McIntosh, so they must be doing something right.

Staunch and powerful amps and well supported by a great company. I have a friend who uses them in his studio and they sound great and can handle LOADS.

Bryston also sells cables. This is their AES-EBU 110 ohm digital cable. Good price, too. $100.00 for one meter cable.

Kudos to James Tanner V/P of Bryston....He's the go to guy for all questions or problems over at Audio Cirlce.
Over at AC he goes the extra mile to help owners and non-owners of Bryston out. He'll even discuss products in the pipeline, possible upgrades for your units and even checks the serial numbers of used units to be sold etc. etc. Mighty impressive He is very similar to what Ron-C of McIntosh does for us here.

'cisco.......Yes, I remember last year when James Tanner was answering Lyle's questions (Lyle1) on Audio Circle, back when Lyle wasn't sure he was getting all he wanted from his McIntosh and PMC set up. What impressed me about Tanner's answers to Lyle's questions was that he never pushed Bryston. He made suggestions to Lyle about bi-wiring, and speaker placement. He was trying to help Lyle with what he had, rather than try to sell him Bryston. I believe I made a comment in a post on that other restricted site about being impressed with James Tanner's dedication to audio, and individuals first. Very refreshing.

Somehow Bryston goes together with PMC as I noticed the local distributor who handled PMC also carried the Bryston amps (and sources). So, its really refreshing to note the person was working around rather than pushing which is really rare these days. In fact, these are the shops I would go to if I am looking for speakers or amps as I wont be hearing "condemning words and statements" made about my current gears and how they are not fitting in the total performance picture. By the way, the local distributor had brought in the huge combo of MB2XBDi in walnut. Huge and tall, like the XRT30's I used to have, except its in two stacked up boxes. Super bass ... the kind that will set your heart a flutter unlike the boomy nor muddled type. These are bass note one can feel and "touch". Never did asked for the pricing cause I know its in the high to super high category. Thinking back, if I have no speakers, the PMC EB1i or the MB2i would be in consideration. Looks wise, the single column EB1i's looked more "flowing" while the MB2i looked more studio like - especially on stands (which I had yet to seen one). Cheers!
