Power trigger question
I have been playing around a little with triggering power on various components. Looking for some opinions...
First of all, my Furman conditioner has two un-switched outlets which I use for the pre-amplifier and computer/music server. The remaining are switched via the power trigger cable from the pre-amplifier to the power conditioner. Therefore I can have the other components, amplifier, disk spinner, tuner, etc., get triggered on via the pre-amplifier. My question is this, there are many times when listening to other sources, such as the music server or listening through headphones that only certain components are in use. Is it a bad idea to have them all powered via the trigger or is it better to individually power the components that are going to be used. For example, listening to a SACD I wouldn't need the tuner on, or listening to the headphones I would not require the amplifier. So is it better for the individual components to always power up without using their individual power switches, or is it better to only power them when they are about to be used? I have heard both arguments, so what do you guys think?

Randy.......I thinks this is a matter of personal choice. There really is no absolute when it comes to powering up components that you don't intend to use at any given moment.

Yea, I didn't believe there would be any absolutes. I was more or less looking for peoples opinions and reasons... more wear having components power on every time weather being used or not, versus more wear flipping each components power switch. Just wondering if people had opinions.... I value members inputs and experiences is all
 ...

Are you concerned about burning out bulbs, or putting wear and tear on the equipment or is this simply not a concern with today's gear?

I do the same as Ivan. Some trigger schemes are just too complicated to be accommodated by one pre-amp. The only difference in my scheme is that when I select TV or other video source, all amps come one. When I just want to listen to music (tuner or DAC), then only the 2 main amps come on.
It's an option that is available to me in the pre-amp where I can turn on and off the one trigger that serves the rear and center channel amplifiers. However, whenever I turn on the system the DAC and tuner come on regardless of what option I select. There's no getting past that at all. More programmable triggers would be nice but I'm not worried about stressing the gear in this case.

Ok, cool... thank you guys. This is the feedback I was looking for! With the Furman the Benchmark can trigger all the other components, accept the computer which I want to keep separate, always on anyway...

Hmmm... thought I mentioned it... wife and I are in the process of selling our house... if all works out we will be building our retirement home in Ocala Florida. The whole idea is getting ready to be able to retire in a few years and be able to actually afford it, which is really hard on the Central Coast of California...
The den has already been designated as my office/music room ....
