Default Roadies

Has anyone else been watching any of the first three episodes of Roadies on Showtime? I won't say that this is a great show but they do some interesting things musically to introduce you to quickly introduce you to some new artists. The show focuses on a group of the Roadies who accompany the fictitious Staton-House Band. Roadies hasn't show the S-H band playing in any of the first three episodes but what is interesting is we get to see the Opening Acts for a bit in each show. In Episode 1 the act was "The Head and The Heart". I had never heard of them but I have found some of their music to be pretty good. In Episode 2 the opening act was "Reignwolf" who plays agitated distorto-blues guitar licks with anguished vocals. The third Episode had Lindsey Buckingham doing some of his guitar magic. Interspersed throughout each episode we get bits and pieces of music from Dylan, Bobby Gentry, The Replacements, Gary Clark Jr., Jeff Buckley, The Who, The Box Tops.........

Some of the stock footage is pretty interesting.

Some familiar faces in the cast such as: Luke Wilson, Carla Gugino, Keisha Castle-Hughes and the cutie Imogen Poots. The series creator and director is Cameron Crowe.

Roadies keeps getting better as you get involved in the character development each week. Joy Williams formally of The Civil Wars was a non-singing guest star the last two week. Boy did they write a surprising turn for her character in this weeks episode. Good job.

As I noted before the music in the show is not performed by the fictitious band the "Roadies' work for. Rather for funny plot reasons each week they have a new opening act. This week it was John Mellencamp who was giving someone a guitar lesson.

Jim we have been watching the show and do enjoy it. Definitely agree that it has gotten better over time with the progression of the character development.
Glad we stuck with it as the first couple of episodes were not very engrossing, but now I find myself looking forward to watching the next show.

I love this show. The Cincinatti episode was terrific as was this week's episode with the Skynard story was awesome. Some of the shows are like little movies.

If you liked Almost Famous, you will love this show.

Bummer. Only two episodes to go. I hope it is renewed for a second season.

Yeah, that one looks like it could be a maybe on renewal. It looks really expensive.

In the same genre, I just started Dennis Leary's Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll. It's pretty funny.

Interestingly, the leader of this genre trend was Vinyl which was a big disappointment.

Last night was the season (possibly series) finale. I enjoyed this series, one where you actually liked most of the characters. Cameron Crowe had no problem getting industry names to take small spots throughout the season. Last night was no exception.
Eddie Veder
Robin Hitchcock
Jim James
Jackson Browne
Gary Clark Jr
Nicole Atkins
Lucious and Greg Leisz

The show was kind of a double Eulogy. One for a character in the show and one for a disappearing era of Rock.
