For me that is a good thing. I don't feel any envy now for the 5's. My upper frequencies with the sweet cj gear can handle a bit more transparency in that region. I forgot to ask. Ultra SS's hard hat up or down - any sonic difference you can detect. cheers |

The main reason I got the optional bases is because I use the Ultra's in sets of 4 (5 under the amps), which requires a bit of leveling adjustment to ensure equal weight distribution. Unlike the Ultra SS', the Ultra 5's have no built-in leveling adjustment, and that is where the bases come handy. What I can tell you is certainly worth experimenting with is the exact placement under the component: small shifts can make quite a difference. For this reason, I have not screwed them in place of the original feet.

Ultra SS's finally under the speakers. 435 lbs per speaker is a little more weight than my phono stage
listening thoughts to follow |

Good job Shane! I'm interested in this. The carpet looks well padded.

On carpet with a foam pad?
this is a total waste of $$, time and effort The Ultra's need to be screwed in in place of the Wilson diodes But,without solid surface contact this is all meaningless |

yes very well padded, in hindsight a bit too much. Having heavy speakers with long spikes is a must. Stillpoints said heavy carpet should not be a problem with my heavy speakers. |

I am using the Ultra's to replace the spikes, not the diode. If it replaced the diode it would be too low to the ground as the Ultra's are not tall enough. this to me is the most practicle way to use them, no wonder you had no benefits. Yes on thick carpet on a concrete slab - foam pad ??. The carpet is in the entire room. nice to see you looking. At 435lbs per speaker the interface with the floor is about as solid as it will be on carpet over concrete. Multiple levels of stacked bearings that convert vibration into unwanted energy dissipated, so what it is sitting on is not the be all and end all as almost all of the work is done with the bearings in theory. As I have said previously, if they do not work they will go back under my components so ZERO waste of money. In fact I save $$ as I don't have to buy more for my components. Hell if you can't spend some effort with our hobby, why bother. proof will be in the listening Last edited by turntable; 11-30-2012 at 09:44 PM. |
