Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll research that Rega turntable a little more.

You can do, that, but honestly, my advice would be to just place an order with Ivan for a Rega Planar 3, or if you need it with a cartridge, with the Rega Elys cartridge pre-insalled.

Honestly, you're not going to find a turntable in the price class of the Rega Planar 3 that will outperform it. This is because the Planar 3 fully competes with turntables costing many times its price. It also has one of the very best tonearms, the RB330, ever designed, and also importantly, the Rega is reliable and very durable. I used my original Rega Planar 3 from the 80s for 30 years before replacing it.

I would also look at a Pro-Ject turntable, this one is just above your budget and has that very classic look. Pro-Ject tonearms are very good and include all adjustments including the critical azimuth. Rega tonearms cannot be adjusted for azimuth, you have to use spacers which is not too accurate, Rega are also known to run a tad fast too.

Just something else to consider......
Have fun!

+1 on the Rega suggestion. At some point you may decide to try different cartridges and the Rega arm is worthy of same.

And, don't forget some sort of LP cleaning system. With LPs, cleanliness is definitely next to godliness for good sound. The Spin-Clean system is a good one for not much $$.

I’m going to look at the Rega this weekend. My McIntosh dealer has one hooked up.

Yup, I had a Sumiko Pearwood Celebration II MC in my Rega P5 and it punched way, way above its price point.

And the Spin Clean works GREAT for cleaning LP records. Its very effective; IMHO it works better than the classic VPI RCM.
