It looks like the 24/192 masters were down-rezzed to 24/44 before cutting to vinyl. Glad I stuck to my contention that vinyl sourced from digital makes no sense.

I guess this is about as bad as CD 16/44 audio being up-converted and sold as 24/96 master audio.

Sides 3 and 4 are sounding better, but still there is something missing here, I say it's body, fullness, but you cannot get these songs no other way then to buy multiple albums and/or 45s. So, for the money you cannot go wrong for the collection of songs. Would I replace a copy of the original/reissue I have for this new reissue, hard call. Maybe for the money, these would be cheaper, but probably for the sound, maybe not. I would not mind a new issue of "Revolver" or "Sgt Pepper's", mine are original's, but only a VG+ at best. I'm pretty sure to get EX or better copies would cost more than $23.

Fremer and Hoffman's blogs are full of discussion about these. Some are suggesting that the German Optimal pressings are flatter and quieter than the US Rainbo pressings. Haven't yet seen any actual comparison reviews yet though so this could be speculation.

Second set had a few warped lps as well but luckily some flat sides that were warped on the first set so I've managed to put together a fairly clean box and a half warped box. As I listen to these records, the initial disappointment with finding warped lps is fading. I'm really enjoying these.

I am listening to the "new" version of the Beatles album, Sgt. Pepper . This record sounds superb ! Say whatever you want about the way it was remastered. I think they did a fine job on this album !

I have listened to the complete collection, and not one click, pop, or hiss. This is a fine addition to my collection, and will get many plays!
Regards,
Jim

I was curious about the sound of these records, and bought a U.S. copy of Revolver from the latest reissues. There were no obvious pressing defects, and it is not noisy. It is pretty lifeless and sterile sounding though. Given the cost and difficulty of sourcing allegedly good vinyl pressings (as well as the controversy around what those are- tube cut early UK Parlophones, EMI 'one boxes,' early German Odeon or Apple pressings, or something else- e.g. the Parlophone Blue Box), this is probably the easiest way to have the records. But if Revolver is reflective of what is on the rest of the set, I would not regard this as much more than an average digital recording in a vinyl format.

Why am I not surprised?

It is a slightly-above average digital recording on vinyl. The lacquers were cut from 24/44.1 masters derived from the 24/192 archival copy of the tapes.
