Glisse, thanks for addi. info.
Yes I see 911 has very high gain. but my Moon has 31dB which is quite high too. when I use amp with normal gain of 26dB, I have to crank it to 70 sometimes driving Salon2. Actually I just want new amp. too bad Burmester would require me to replace ARC Ref40, which is still very good, to me. and as both preamp and 911 are designed as true balance, I don't want to run RCA with them. I'll content myself weighing this one:

Toga, curiosity compels me to ask what about your Simaudio amplifiers don't you like? I have a W-7, which I think is great, and I can only imagine how much better the monoblocks must be.
Have you considered the new 880Ms? Those plus your ARC with Magico would be a pretty special system. |

I agree with your thoughts that the Burmester gear should be run balanced. And personally, I would not take the risk of buying for a discount, then hearing whether they work in your system or not. Unless the discount is so good that you can turn it over for little loss. If the new distributor is serious about establishing the brand properly, they should work with you on this. After all, if you buy them with the discount, and then say they sound like rubbish with your system, this is more likely to create bad PR in your country. This introductory pricing is a lousy marketing approach for high end gear in my view Really, if you are going to take a risk buying something without hearing it first, better maybe to get a used version which can be resold for a similar price. |

Hi, thanks Glisse.
1. Without saying that Burmester may not be good. But the risk is that they may not suit my speakers, my taste, or my preference well. 2. 911m3 It is clearly incompatible with my current preamp, which is already a very good one, and still less than 2 years in service, selling it to buy something like 077+PSU or 088 just to match 911m3 is not something that I really want to do as I just only want new high quality power amps. I better go other route, finding amp that match well with ARC tube preamp. 3. Moon W7M is not a bad sounding amp at all, just a shade too cold. I sure can live with it until I find a better soulution, oops , solution. So, may be no Burmester at the moment.. Toga |

Toga, why do you think your arc preamp won't work? This is the very combo that Jeff Dorgay of tone audio runs.

From the specification of Tube ARC preamp.
minimum load is 20Kohm. Also confirmed by Stereophile labs result when they tested ARC REf3, distortion rise sharply when load impedance decreased. Burmester 911m3 has balanced load impedance almost 20 times lower then ARC recommended value. However thinking about smaller model for secondary system, may be the integrated that looks like 911m3. Yes running balanced is not possible. You are aware the input impedance is significantly higher when run balanced? This IS possible.
