meridian 808.2--need help to properly set it up!
hi..i was lucky enough to come across a used 808.2
it sounds great but i feel it is not set up ideally. i didn't expect so many choices! 1) what "type" should i use? i put it on type 1 (fixed) but yet it allowed me to use the volume button. i thought it would be disabled in the fixed mode. what is the best volume to leave the cd player on? i chose 65. so far i use a separate amp and preamp for all my functions including volume. i really have to crank my amp's volume control to get it to go loud unless i have the cd players' volume up to about 80. 2)what does the "gain" for analog sources refer to? 3) what is absolute phase? thanks for the help!!!! mike |

Mike, Type 1 is fine
87 is unity gain on meridian gear ..65 is way too low Gain on analog will allow you to make all your sources the same volume when you switch them and prevent overloading etc Absolute phase is changing the speakers from "suck to blow" so to speak, leave it on + There is a meridan board..you will get more info there re setup and user manuals http://www.meridianunplugged.com/ubb...ubbthreads.php

Here is a link for the Owner's Manual. It should answer your questions.

The one issue with I have with the 808vx series is you need a PC to run the setup program. I know with versions 3, Anniversary, 5 & 6 you need this program to turn on and off some of the digital inputs and assign names for both analog and digital.
Rodney is right on with 87 being unity gain and equal to the fixed out. I left mine on variable and keep my output at 87 which if required can be managed from the remote, from Control:Mac, my iPad, Sooloos or Roon. Like you I actually manage my volume with my preamp. |

You say that type "1" is fine, but in reality it is fixed at #66 or #65 volume. Which contradicts what you said "65 is too low". ( assuming you meant variable level "0") What i mean is ( unless i still dont know what the heck i am doing) lol, type 0 is variable--0-99..and should be set to 87? type 1 is fixed (65/66) and sounds too low to me why would meriadian set the fixed output so low that your preamp has to be turned up so high. which seems to congest the sound? sorry to bother thanks mike from pa |
