more than 5,000 CD's is a large library IMHO. There are several hitchhikers on the other M. forum you have over 9,000 CD collections imported into their Sooloos system. The Sooloos scales ... if you buy another 2,500 CD's you can simply add another MD600 to handle the CDs. However, backup at these levels is ... time consuming. I only have ~2,100 CD's loaded on my system, it takes up < 1 Tb of storage.

I have about 6000 CDs in my Sooloos collection. I find Sooloos enables me to find the track I want quickly and easily.

With HDD progressing as days goes by, the Sooloos Twinstore (or the newer Media Drive 600) can now accommodate 4TB x 2, which should store humongous amount of CD files. Howie had 2, so that could make a 8TB x 2 storage. Thats easily 16k+ of CDs information with full backup!

Okay, get it. iTunes doesn't offer back up as a strong feature point. i.e. if I want to back up my library, it should be kept on an external storage (with RAID) and then back up to a external storage (also with RAID)

Where Sooloos does this all with their external storage solutions and is transparent to the user.

iTunes has a back up to CD feature which is ridiculous!

I don't have as many CD's as you all but I understand how Focus works and the speed of which it works versus iTunes's smart playlists.

Still, Has Meridian provided track level meta data? i.e. One song in an album, oh say, Huey Lewis and Gwyneth Paltrow's duet of Smokey Robinson's "Cruisin'" ... AND I want to hear more Smokey Robinson songs OR I want to hear more Huey Lewis's songs.. does Sooloos support focusing down to the track level?

No, the Sooloos system does not have track level meta data. I doubt it ever will, adding this would be a major change to the operating system.

I have very few various artists albums so I forget about this missing feature and don't miss it but I can see how it would be important to some.

Sonus has track meta data capabilities which is another music server not mentioned. Just go into settings and click list contributing artists and then select update library

I don't think Sonos has the Genius or Swim feature that iTunes and Sooloos have.

It's benefits is that it can offer higher resolution audio than the AppleTV or Airport Express.

The Olive servers are similar but offer even better audio and integration.

I would rate from Great to good:

1. Sooloos
2. Olive
3. Sonos
4. iTunes

..McIntosh doesn't have a current product.

Plus I have one and I think it's greatest feature, for me, is the batch import via CD Changer along with, yes, iPad control. (Yet, I have yet to mess around with it so this all maybe pre-mature. In three weeks folks you'll here my "hands on" thoughts)
