No prob...

If there is anything I can do to help with mfr. stuff, I'm always happy to get on the phone and call or email the big guys. I know most of them pretty well now.

That being said, Meridian will probably issue a press release next week saying they ARE discontinuing the TwinStore and I'll look like an idiot!

But Enno has become a good friend over the years and has never fed me misinformation in the past. If I had to guess, they will come up with an improved version of the TwinStore at some point. For a while they were talking about releasing a QuadStore...

Both Bob Stuart and Enno have HUGE CD collections and their personal hot button with Sooloos is to show how well it performs with large music collections, so I would be shocked if they ever moved away from a large storage solution.

I saw another thread about this topic in a different forum before finding this one and there still seems to be some confusion. In the Meridian Hitchhikers forum (mostly UK users), there is a dealer who is is very sure that the Twinstore is being discontinued.

INFO: Twinstores nearly all gone - The Hitchhikers Guide To Meridian

I also expect to here back from a Meridian regional sales manager on the topic as I would be directly affected. I've had plans to jump into Twinstores from my current Store Ones and Two, but was likely waiting on the general availability of 3TB drives and ideally the official thumbs up from Meridian on their approval for use. Certainly, it would be better to have the luxury of jumping in when I was good and ready, so I'm interested to hear what my rep finds out. all things being equal, I would have preferred an eventual Quadstore vs the Twin, but I've been told that it's no longer in development.

I wonder if it is possible that we're seeing a regional phase out of this specific model due to poor sales in certain markets vs others...

Jeff

I saw that thread also, very confusing.

I can tell you my local Meridian dealer just got in 2 new Twinstores.

I highly doubt you will be able to get a 3tb drive to work in a Twinstore, the Sooloos system is a Windows XP based system that does not support hard drives larger than 2tb. I've used 2tb drives in my Twinstore for close to a year now with no troubles.

That's an interesting point as I had forgotten about the system's XP base. I know there are tools around to overcome the obstacle, including some being included in 3TB retail packages. Obviously, Meridian would have to support this on their end so we'll see if they do. I guess I could always start out with 2TB drives and then move to 3TB models later if they were supported. My current library size is just over 3TB total, so I'd still have adequate free space with 4 2TB drives across 2 Twinstores. I keep a backup and would continue to do so even if I went to Twinstores, so transitioning to larger drive sizes wouldn't be a big deal.

Question Sooloos running 32 bit or 64 bit XP?

Do we know for sure that the system is using the 32 bit vs 64 bit version of XP? The latter should support 3TB drives while the former needs a workaround software utility, so it's an important distinction.

Jerry tried 3tb drives in his Twinstore and they didn't work. So I'm guessing it's the 32 bit version.

Guess there is still some mystery here. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. You are all correct that the Store and Twinstores will not work with larger than 2TB drives. The Store can not take more than 2TB max.

I'll keep you all posted if I hear any more, but I can't imagine that Meridian is going to make everyone move to an MC600.

Just got official news today in the US, the Twinstore and Ensemble are now discontinued.

This came straight from Meridian US.

Now I am really glad I did buy that extra piece of Twinstore 2TB x 2 cause when last I visited my dealer last week, he had RACKMOUNT Twinstores (black color) for sale and these had the built in power supplies and side ventilation. Also, drives accessibility is from the front (unlike regular Twinstores where ventilation is on top, accessibility of drives at the rear and a power block on the outside).

When I visited the Meridian Official website, under Sooloos Components, all they showed are:

1. Control 15
2. Media Source 600
3. media Core 200

Nothing about Twinstore or Ensemble.

So the rumor was indeed true when my local dealer told me .. and not because he was then trying to pull a fast one to have me buy more.

Cheers!
