Default Comparing 300sei to 150k system

Stopped by a shop here in Nor Cal and listened to Magico Q7 speakers powered by VTL Siegfrieds. Front end was the top of the line VTL pre amp and some cool front end.

Sounded big, sounded good but for the magic in the middle my 300sei smokes it.

What's really funny is that the new Ayre ads state that their new stuff finally beats the tube stuff! Admitting that by default, everything before was trying and didn't do it.

Gotta love audio.......................

Lots of marketing...............

That's what is great about this hobby. Once you find what you are looking for, all the flashy pretty stuff seems to be just that. I haven't found anything that makes me want to ditch audio research or wilson, at any price.

Ever get the feeling this is a very commercial site and if you say something negative about another brand everyone goes crickets for fear of being banned or something......

The truth is most gear is junk aimed at deaf people with money.

Sorry, but it's true.

Definitely disagree, there is a lot of great gear out there these days. As far as this site, I disagree there, too. You have to go out of your way to be banned.

I wouldn't say that's true by any stretch. Sure, there's products in all fields that may not be the best and that cater to those with money, but saying most is junk is nonsense. Give some examples of some products in your experience that fit that description.

I agree with you. There is very little junk out there. There are a lot of products I wouldn't own for one reason or another but it sure isn't junk

Maybe your right. The economy is weeding out the silly stuff. If you read between the lines it's funny what gets admitted over time.

Such as.......

The Sophia was the best speaker in the Wilson line by far and everything else they made was somewhat clinical by comparison.

Ayer just admitted that their new stuff now sounds better than the best tube.

The Internet is making the truth easier to find.

The "truth"? Did not realize there was a universal "truth". We like what we like and spend our money accordingly. If you don't care for my preference(s), that's OK with me and doesn't make my selection(s) junk any more then your selections are. We all have different ears. The internet only tells us what others think/hear. Not what we think/hear. Enjoy!!

Marketing hype by any company is commonplace, if you're "into" a product, you shouldn't have any trouble distinguishing the hyperbole from the actual quality of the product. I'm not sure about Wilson stating that the Sophia was the best in their line....I always read that it was the MAXX and then the Alexandria XLF that was the top in the Wilson line. The Sophia has always been a good value for what it delivered, but I don't think its ever been touted as the best in their line.
