Default Ma-5100

For about 2 years now I own a McIntosh Ma-5100. After using a Rotel RC/RB 850 preamp/amp combination for fourteen years. The first idea after switching from the Rotel to the 5100 was that now I came a bit closer to good music reproduction.

The amp is in quite good condition even though I had a channel imbalance recently and the terminal strips on the back look a little chewed up.

I'm still looking for a good volume pot as a spare part for worst case scenarios and found a site where someone uses a Goldpoint volume pot for his C28. Perhaps a solution for me as well as long as I can make sure it fits.

Cheers

Joerg

That looks like a good option. I need one with a loudness tap.

My service guy soldered some resistors inside and demonstrated the effect to me with an oscilloscope. He said that the result is better than most modern amps are capable of. He used to to that with certain Burmester amps and said it's a rather cheap way out of the dilemma especially when no replacement volume pots are available any more.

Cheers

Joerg
