My listening room is 5.94 (W) x 8.53 (L). x 3.15/3.65 (H) in meters, or around 19.5' (W) x 27.9'(L) 10.3'/12'(H).
The 20.7's are placed, with tweeters on the inside, along the shorter 5.94m (19.5') wall. They're toed in so that the inner edges are about 1.61-1.63m (5'4") from the front wall and outer edges about 1.78-1.80m (5'11"). The speakers' outer edges are roughly 0.98-0.99m (3'3") away from the side walls. The inner edges are about 2.60m (8'6.5") from each other, making tweeter ribbons 2.84m (9'4") apart. There is about 3.96m (13') distance between my head and the plane of the speakers' mid-range drivers. I've moved them around all these while, but the speakers and sofa are pretty much back to where Rives Audio recommended, i.e., speakers about 1/5 into the room and my seat 2/3 into the room. : ) |

Klao,
That is a nice size room. I really envy your high ceiling. So with the toe in that you have where about would you say the sound from the ribbon tweeters intersect? |

bzr,
The oak and the black socks look really good together. So is that the 20.1 or the 20.7? What is the black device between your speakers? |

Thanks. That's a good question. From the picture, I guess the tweeters should intersect just around my head or a little behind it. (The sofa is about 60cm or 2 feet deep.) |

Klao,
Nice room with lots of space for a big sound stage. Those Bryston's are an excellent match for your 20.7's. Thank you for posting. I see I might need to try more toe in. ~Mike |

Yes, to my ears the 20.7 sounds better than the biamped 20.1. I have to give some credit to the classe amp (m600) that I am using as well. Much cleaner sound and better integration between frequencies. The bass on the biamped 20.1 was powerful but never as "clean".

Is anyone tilting the speaker to create an angle other than 90 degrees with the floor? If so, what angle?
Also, is anyone using spikes or any other device to anchor or isolate the speakers from the floor ? |

Goose Bump moment:
I have been moving my 3.7i's around since getting them back from the factory. My subs have been turned off during this process trying to find the best placement. Well I think I finally hit it. Still 6 foot out from the wall but now 6 foot apart so as not to have the ribbon tweeters blocked by the support poles in my basement. I have toe'ed them in so the focal point of intersection is about 8 foot from the speakers. Tonight I was listening to Portrait of Jaco by Brian Bromberg, "The Chicken". That was some nice tight bass notes he was laying down. The Goose Bump moment can while playing an new CD that I transfer to the Bryston BDP-1 called "That's Christmas to me" by the Pentatonix. They are an cappella group. When they started to sing "Mary did you know" the goose bumps started up one side and down the other. Very beautiful music. I installed my Mye stands tonight but didn't listen to see what changes I could detect. They sure are very well made. Since it is Christmas eve I didn't want my wife to spend it up stairs alone while I spent the whole evening in the basement. Maybe after dinner on Christmas day I'll slip back down. I also got my first power cord today to swap out stock one on my C2300. Just getting my feet wet. Not sure these old ear will detect a change but I'll give it a whirl. I think I need some diffusers on the front wall so time to do some reading up on that. Well I hope Santa is good to you all!
Merry Christmas, ~Mike nicoff, I just saw your post. A number here used spiked Mye stands and some use Stillpoints. I just installed the spiked Mye stands tonight but have not listened to them yet. I need to spend quality time with may better half..... I should mention Caelin from Shunyata uses the Sound anchor stand that will tilt the maggie forward. What I was trying to achieve is a balance between wide sound stage for large scale orchestral music and reasonable focus/intimacy for small ensemble / solo pieces. |
