Best thing you do is buy a second MDA1000! Which I did as my second system pre and DAC. Yet..... I'm really at a complete loss on McIntosh digital product direction. Look you can't be high-end product price company with marginal product releases.

I still can't get over those USB ports on the front. Maybe below the headphone jack with a smaller piece of plastic around it would look better? Who knows, I'm happy with my MCD500 so I'm not in the market in any case.

I wonder why the MCD600 does not include the propriety DIN connector for digital DSD output to something like the d1100 and other DACs

I think the USB port on the front is a good idea. If someone brings over a drive with music you don't want to be fiddling behind the unit to make a connection. This way you can just plug it into the front.

It has a built-in DAC. If one wants to use an external DAC, get one of their transports.

I agree on the concept, I personally think where they've placed it looks bad.

maybe good idea if you have a usb key...
bad idea...if you want to connect 500gb ssd...it would be 'hanging' there like an eyesore
one can always run an extension from the back for usb insert

I agree!
They could also have placed a USB in front and rear.

It appears to me that the USB type A port on the face of the MCD600 is provided primarily for using flash drives. A USB type B port on the rear apron would have been a nice addition to the stingy digital input array.

I understand your point but McIntosh sees the writing on the walls that optical and SPDIF connections are going the way of legacy connections on computers. The are very limited to 96 and 192 and having more than a couple of connections just takes up space better utilized for more advanced connections.

I'm appalled Mc isn't giving a bigger solid state hard drive. It hasn't hit the shelves yet it's already outdated.
A Good SSD HD is $120 for 500 gb, 1TB $250, 2 TB is about $500.
