Ivan, do these have a down-facing port? I see the bottom of the cabinet is up off the base pad (which has a channel cut in it), but their specs show the four drivers, so I'm assuming it doesn't have a down-facing woofer.

And what is it that you can adjust using the controls on the back? On their site, I only see reference to the ability to adjust mid and tweeter, but not what it is that's being adjusted (volume relative to other drivers, frequency range?).

I know it's not the reason to buy audio gear, but they are awfully handsome.

Ivan beat me to it, I was up there visiting and got to sneak in some time with the Canton speakers. The piano black looks fantastic in person too. The overall looks don't hurt... but boy they did sound quite nice.

Thanks Masterlu, I have the Canton Ref. 5 (first model) in black to and sounds really good and K3 should even sound better for sure. Beautiful setup as always.

Ivan's getting crazy even by his own standards! Every day I see another post about buying speakers. Makes me feel almost normal.

The K3's are beautiful speakers Ivan. Now that you been with them for a while, what further observations can you share with us.

Every once in a while in this crazy hobby you come across a piece of gear that just exceeds expectations dramatically. In addition, and even more rare, that said piece of gear is such a bargain, frankly it doesn’t make sense.

I mean, in this case we are talking about a pair of speakers that retails for $15,600. I am very familiar with speakers in this price range; however the Canton K3’s simply perform in another pricing zip code.

I have mine, setup right next to my Aerial 20TV2’s and connected to a high end speaker selector for instant comparison. All Esoteric Grandioso electronics drive both sets of speakers.

The Aerial’s cost north of twice the K3’s price. They must be better right? Nope, not even close to being equal, forget about them sounding better.

The K3’s soundstage is much more forward, dynamic and reminiscent of a live performance. The 20T’s sounded really good until I got my K3’s setup beside them.

I will keep the Aerials simply as a comparison, or baseline of a particular $30k pair of speakers. Canton albeit not one to advertise much in the States has created a remarkable line of speakers. I can’t remember the last time I was so smitten, that I went and bought their K1’s and K5’s also.

Great report! Thanks Ivan.

I agree completely. My Ref 1 DC's are mesmerizing speakers. The realism is scary sometimes. With that awesome Esoteric system I'd like to suggest you check out the Analogue Productions title below. It is breathtakingly real in my system, so I can only imagine how amazing it would sound in your fine system.

http://store.acousticsounds.com/d/98...id_Stereo_SACD

Of course, if you already own this title, then you know this.

Nice to hear such a review!

Now after almost two months I haven't found any flaws in my 9k. And I tried) It's so smooth and "analogue" with palpable soundstage, never expected that. I couldn't get any unpleasant sound from them even with some extreme records. And at the same time there's no tricks: the measurements are one of the best I've ever seen, it's flat and without specifical distorsions. For now I can't see a speaker I'd like to have instead of these in below 5-8k range.

The only negative thing is the price i have to pay now for electronics to match that level))) Every component should cost more, than speakers...

Talking about prices - in Europe it's even cheaper. 9k in black is around 3200$. It's essentially the same quality level as it's big brothers, maybe even more precise (after all they are monitors).

But in Germany things are getting really ridiculous. Canton sells online some "online exclusiv" A series speakers only for local buyers. Effectively it's Reference K series, but in simple rectangular housings. Same drivers and filters. But it's half the price of Ref. K. So A 45 BS monitors, for example, are... 1600 $ pair.

Great review Ivan, sounds like an amazing value per $$$$$ spent, kind of like a few others you have previewed and sold. Thank you At that price point add a set of JL F212s and man what a bargain and all around performer huh.

So, and not to hi-jack, but how at the K1 Models cost performance etc? And thinking that even though they have larger drivers I am sure a pair of JLs is always a welcome addition none the less.

PS only the 5s and lower come in the Cherry, I see the site only list black and white for the 3s and the 1s.

What do the 1s go for?

I like the Black you have looks like a Ferrari paint job!
